A cup run gives a season a different shape. A club struggling for league points can suddenly have Wembley in sight, while a promotion contender might find its toughest afternoon comes against lower-ranked opposition. BetVictor’s football betting odds include FA Trophy winner markets for the 2026/27 campaign. Here, the question is not who wins on Saturday. It is which club survives every remaining round and takes the trophy home when the competition ends.
Southend United are the holders after beating Wealdstone on penalties in the 2026 final. The next final is scheduled for Sunday 16 May 2027 at Wembley Stadium. Between the opening rounds and that afternoon, every draw gives the remaining clubs a fresh obstacle.
An FA Trophy outright bet backs a club to win the competition. Getting through a round, reaching a semi-final or making the final is not enough for a win-only selection. Your team must lift the trophy.
You can place this type of wager before your chosen club starts its campaign or later in the tournament, whenever the market is available. An early bet could remain unsettled for months. One placed before the final has a much shorter wait, but still depends on the same outcome.
Cup winner betting should not be confused with league winner betting. A club could lose ground in the promotion race and still have a successful Trophy campaign. Equally, topping the table will not rescue an outright selection after a cup exit.
The winner market lists the clubs available to back and their current prices. Shorter prices generally reflect a higher implied chance of success, although no favourite is certain to progress.
A difficult away draw can change the picture before another ball is kicked. So can a missing goalkeeper or the elimination of a strong rival. Read the displayed price and selection again on the final bet slip before confirming.
An each-way wager contains two equal bets: one on the club to win and another on it to achieve a qualifying place. The total stake is twice the amount entered for each part.
When each-way betting is offered, the market will state how many places count and the fraction used for the place return. Do not assume that reaching the semi-finals or finishing runner-up qualifies without reading those terms.
A successful place part does not necessarily produce a profit across the whole wager. The losing win stake still forms part of what you spent.
Additional options may appear as the competition develops. These could concern reaching a particular stage or another tournament outcome, but availability varies.
Use the wording on the market itself. “To reach the final” asks a different question from “to win the trophy”, and the two selections need not settle in the same way.
The competition is open to eligible first teams at Steps 1 to 4 of the National League System. These cover the fifth to eighth tiers of English football, below the EFL.
Clubs enter at different stages, with qualifying rounds leading into the competition proper. From there, single-match knockout ties reduce the field until two clubs remain.
Under the 2026/27 rules, drawn ties normally go straight to penalties after 90 minutes. The final can include extra time if both clubs agree and the FA approves. Check the confirmed arrangements when considering a match-specific market.
The FA Trophy is not the FA Cup. Some clubs take part in both, but the latter extends through the professional divisions as well. Our FA Cup betting page covers that separate competition.
The preliminary round was scheduled for 15 August 2026, with the first round proper on 24 October. The quarter-finals are scheduled for 6 March 2027, followed by the semi-finals on 3 April.
The final follows on 16 May. Individual fixtures can be rearranged, so check the match listing when following a particular club.
For an outright selection, the gaps between rounds matter. A squad can look quite different by the time the next tie arrives, especially once winter postponements and league commitments begin to pile up.
The current winner market shows which clubs have the shortest prices. There is no fixed list that stays useful throughout the season: results, team news and the draw can all change the order.
League level is a sensible starting point, not a verdict. National League clubs face stronger opposition week to week than teams further down the pyramid, but a cup tie is decided on one afternoon.
Compare a contender’s cup prospects with its domestic commitments. A side prominent in the National League outright betting may also be managing a promotion push. That does not tell you whether it will rotate, but it gives you a reason to check the manager’s plans.
Nor should the holders be backed simply because they won last time. A new campaign brings different opponents, squad changes and another draw to negotiate.
Before looking several rounds ahead, look at the next opponent. Is the tie at home? How has the opposition been playing? Is there a long journey between two important league fixtures?
A manageable-looking route can become awkward quickly. Avoid treating a lower league position as proof that an opponent will be easy to beat.
The strongest team on paper may not be the one that plays. Injuries, suspensions, player eligibility and rotation can all affect the line-up.
Read club updates close to the tie. An established scorer missing one knockout match can matter more to an outright bet than a run of league goals collected earlier in the season.
The table tells part of the story. Look at how a club has handled its Trophy fixtures too, including the quality of opposition and whether its usual starters featured.
A comfortable score does not reveal everything. Was the game close until a late sending-off? Did the goalkeeper keep the team in it? Those details can put a result into perspective.
A big win attracts attention, but the next draw may present a completely different test. Squad depth, away performances and the ability to recover between matches deserve a look.
Research cannot make a cup result certain. If the available information is thin, there is no need to force a selection.
Southend United won the 2025/26 edition after a goalless final against Wealdstone, taking the penalty shoot-out 4–2. It followed victories for Aldershot Town, Gateshead, FC Halifax Town and Bromley in the preceding four seasons.
| Season | Winners | Runners-up |
|---|---|---|
| 2025/26 | Southend United | Wealdstone |
| 2024/25 | Aldershot Town | Spennymoor Town |
| 2023/24 | Gateshead | Solihull Moors |
| 2022/23 | FC Halifax Town | Gateshead |
| 2021/22 | Bromley | Wrexham |
Past winners offer context, not a shortcut to the next champion. Check this season’s entrants and remaining field rather than assuming a familiar name is still involved.
An outright selection follows a club’s attempt to win the whole competition. For a bet on the next tie alone, visit the FA Trophy match betting page.
The distinction matters when a game finishes level. A standard match-result market normally settles after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding a shoot-out and any extra time. A team can therefore draw that market and still progress.
“To qualify” concerns which club advances. An outright winner bet concerns the eventual trophy winner. Read the label carefully, particularly once only a handful of teams remain.
Do not assume an outright selection can be cashed out later. Make the decision on the basis that your stake may remain committed until the bet is settled.
The regional divisions provide another way to follow clubs involved in the Trophy. Explore National League North outright odds for the northern division’s title race.
For the southern division, visit National League South outright betting. Those markets concern league outcomes, so keep them separate from a club’s progress towards Wembley.
