The PGA Championship is one of the four golf majors. Played in mid-May each year, the PGA Championship comes after the Masters and is the second of the four majors played in chronological order. The total prize purse climbed to a record $20.5 million in 2026, with the winner taking home $3.69 million and the iconic Wanamaker Trophy. The event is organised by the PGA of America.
Like many other golf tournaments including majors, the PGA Championship is held at different prestigious courses each year. The 2026 edition was hosted at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, where England's Aaron Rai claimed a maiden major title at 9-under-par 271. The 150-1 longshot became the first English winner of the PGA Championship since Jim Barnes in 1919, a gap of 107 years, and also the second player of Indian heritage to win a major Championship after Vijay Singh. Players from the PGA Tour, European Tour and Japan Golf Tour are permitted to play, and winners are automatically entered into the other majors for the next five years.
2027 PGA Championship: First Men's Major in Texas Since 1969
The 2027 PGA Championship will be staged at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas, with championship play running from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 May 2027. The 109th edition of the Championship marks a major milestone for American golf, becoming the first men's major Championship played in Texas since the 1969 US Open at Champions Golf Club in Houston.
The Gil Hanse-designed Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco is a par-72 layout stretching to 7,863 yards. Set on the 660-acre PGA Frisco campus, the venue is now the official home of the PGA of America and has previously hosted the 2023 Senior PGA Championship (won by Steve Stricker) and the 2025 KPMG Women's PGA Championship (won by Minjee Lee). The 2027 Championship coincides with the 100-year anniversary of Walter Hagen's 1927 PGA Championship win at Cedar Crest Country Club in Dallas.
Defending champion Aaron Rai heads the early ante-post markets for the 2027 PGA Championship as he looks to become the first back-to-back PGA Championship winner since Brooks Koepka in 2018 and 2019.
