Bet on Beach Volleyball

If ever an Olympic city symbolised the true spirit of Beach Volleyball, then Rio 2016 was it. Hosted on the world-famous Copacabana beach, 24 teams and 48 athletes from both the men’s and women’s tournament competed for the gold medal on the sun-baked sand of Brazil.

While Germany’s Laura Ludwig & Kira Walkenhorst took the title in the women’s competition, it was Alison Cerutti & Bruno Oscar Schmidt who sent the home crowd into raptures by claiming the men’s competition for hosts Brazil.

And just as in Rio, here at BetVictor we’ll have the latest Beach Volleyball betting when the sport arrives in Tokyo for the Olympics in 2020.

Beach Volleyball History

While Brazil feels like the natural home and habitat of Beach Volleyball, the history of the sports goes way back to 1915, where it’s thought to have originated on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. The modern two player game as we know it now originated in Santa Monica, California and was of course made famous by the infamous scene in Top Gun, although no-one should play in their jeans like Maverick.

It became an Olympic sport in 1996 and is one of the most popular in the Olympic calendar; and we’ll be there for every bump, set and spike with Beach Volleyball betting odds for all the best competitions.

Beach Volleyball Competitions

Before the Olympics come around again, there’s more than enough to keep you entertained in Beach Volleyball, with the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour ensuring there are a host of Beach Volleyball betting opportunities all over the globe, throughout the year.

Beginning in February and culminating in the World Tour Finals in August, the tour for both the men and women’s game sees the 24 qualified teams compete in tournaments hosted at venues all around the world, including USA, Iran, Australia, Malaysia, Russia, China and Germany.

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour also incorporates the Beach Volleyball World Championships, with the winners emerging as the best of 96 teams. Such an achievement means the competition is considered second only to the Olympic tournament in terms of the most prestigious title players can strive for in Beach Volleyball.

Having won more gold medals in the tournament than any other nation, the men’s game continues to be dominated by the boys from Brazil, while in the women’s game recent competition from China, USA and Germany have ensured a slightly more even distribution of medals among the leading nations.
