Division winners receive guaranteed playoff spots regardless of their overall record, making winning a division crucial for securing a postseason berth.

Seeding plays a key role in determining matchups and advantages throughout the tournament. The top seed in each conference receives a first-round bye, allowing them to rest while seeds 2 through 7 compete in the Wild Card round.

Teams with tied records face a series of tiebreakers to determine their final playoff seeding and positioning. This current 14-team format was implemented in 2020, expanding from the previous 12-team structure that had been in place for years.

Championship glory awaits at the end of this challenging postseason journey. The tournament culminates in the Super Bowl, held in early February each year, where the two conference champions battle for ultimate supremacy.
