Holy Diver Megaways Slot Game Review

Holy Diver Megaways by Big Time Gaming is built around the studio’s Reel Adventure mechanic, letting the player shape how the bonus plays out, rather than just triggering it and watching it go. Combined with BGT’s greatest hit, the Megaways mechanic, this is a game with a lot of moving parts.

Theme & Graphic

Themes for online slots are basically only limited by the graphic department's capabilities, and this one sticks with a medieval fantasy setup, but doesn’t go too heavy on the dark stuff. You’ve got knights, treasure chests, and the usual run of enemies, just presented in a brighter, more playful way. The background leans towards open skies instead of gloomy castles, which gives it a lighter feel from the start.

Visually, it’s very much in that Big Time Gaming lane. Clean symbols, smooth animations, nothing messy or overdone. Everything is easy to follow, and it all moves along nicely without any fuss.

The real bit to watch is the knight at the bottom of the screen. He’s not just there for show. He actually gets involved, moving across, opening chests, and helping trigger features. It gives the game a bit of life outside the reels, so even when nothing big is landing, there’s still something going on.

Payouts in the table below are given as multiples of the bet

Wilds come into play mainly through features rather than appearing as standard symbols. Instead, different bonuses convert symbols or positions into wilds, often with multipliers attached. There’s no traditional scatter either, which already sets it apart from most slots.

Bonus Features

Reel Adventure Mechanic

The main hook sits below the reels. A knight moves along a path and occasionally runs into treasure chests. When he does, he kicks them open and triggers one of several modifiers.

These can turn symbols into wilds, drop extra wilds onto the reels, or even add full wild reels with multipliers. It keeps the base game from feeling flat, since something can pop up at any point.

Level System & Free Spins

Instead of triggering Free Spins in the usual way, the game asks the player to collect four different coloured gems. Once collected, there’s a choice to make, either take the Free Spins or move up a level.

Each level increases the wild multipliers used during the bonus. So level one keeps things standard, level two adds a x2 multiplier, and level three pushes it up to x3. By the time Free Spins begin at the highest level, the setup is much stronger.

Free Spins Feature

Free Spins start with ten spins. During the feature, gems landing on the reels turn into wilds with multipliers based on the chosen level.

The knight shows up again here, but instead of opening chests, he takes on enemies. Beating them can add extra spins or trigger a re-spin boost. With each re-trigger, the number of Megaways increases, pushing the potential higher as the feature continues.

Spin Mechanics

The base setup is pretty standard for Megaways slots; the game runs on six reels, each showing between two and seven symbols, with ways to form combinations shifting on every spin. Wins land from left to right, using adjacent matching symbols.

Similar Slots

  • Raging Rhino Megaways keeps things familiar, bringing over its land-based roots into a 6-reel Megaways setup. The top reel wild adds a bit of help during spins, and it can pick up multipliers in Free Spins.
  • Starz Megaways goes for a simple space theme with expanding wilds and two-way wins.
  • Temple of Treasure Megaways sticks to Blueprint’s familiar formula, with cascading reels, mystery symbols, and Free Spins multiplier.

BetVictor’s Opinion

We like that Holy Diver Megaways feels a bit different from the usual Megaways constructions. The Reel Adventure setup adds a layer that keeps things ticking over, even when the reels themselves are quiet. Having a choice over when to enter Free Spins also changes the rhythm, giving a bit more control over how things play out.

The only downside, in our opinion, is that it can take a moment to get used to everything happening below the reels, especially with no traditional scatter to rely on. But once it clicks, it has a steady flow to it.
