The Masters is back at Augusta National in April 2027, and one question hangs over the week: can Rory McIlroy win it for a third year running?

Nobody has done that before. McIlroy took his first Green Jacket in 2025, defended it 12 months later and now returns with a chance to stand alone in Masters history. Scottie Scheffler leads the early betting, though, after finishing only one shot behind him last time. Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young are also near the top of a strong outright market.

Masters Week runs from Monday 5 April to Sunday 11 April 2027. The four tournament rounds are scheduled for 8–11 April at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

Thursday and Friday decide who reaches the weekend. After 36 holes, the top 50 players and ties continue.

Scottie Scheffler

Augusta already feels like one of Scheffler’s courses. He won here in 2022 and 2024, and a closing 68 took him within a shot of McIlroy in 2026.

There is plenty of space from several tees, but Augusta is really a course of angles. The wrong side of a fairway can block the best route into the green. Scheffler’s approach play and habit of avoiding needless trouble are major reasons why the early market puts him first.

Rory McIlroy

For years, Augusta was the missing line on McIlroy’s record. That changed with his playoff win over Justin Rose in 2025. In 2026, he came back and did it again.

Now comes a shot at three straight. Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods all retained the Green Jacket, yet none completed the hat-trick. McIlroy’s length gives him chances on the par fives. More importantly, the last two Sundays have shown he can live with the pressure here.

Jon Rahm

Rahm’s 2023 victory was built on patience as much as shot-making. He stayed close, made fewer expensive mistakes than his rivals and eventually won by four.

That experience matters. Augusta regularly tempts players into taking on a flag or a carry that isn’t worth the risk. Rahm knows where birdies are available and, just as usefully, where a par is a good result.

Bryson DeChambeau

Few players can attack Augusta’s par fives quite like DeChambeau. A long drive can turn them into short approach holes, giving him four clear opportunities to pick up shots.

Power alone won’t solve Augusta, of course. He will still need to control approaches into sharply sloped greens and find a touch around the collection areas. His record in the majors makes him impossible to dismiss.

Cameron Young and Ludvig Åberg

Young began the final round of the 2026 Masters tied for the lead and eventually shared third. He didn’t get the Green Jacket, but the week supplied proof that his game travels well around Augusta.

Åberg went even closer on his debut in 2024, finishing second to Scheffler. Players often need several visits before they look comfortable here. The Swede skipped that stage entirely.

On television, Augusta can look almost gentle: broad sweeps of perfect grass, flowering azaleas and barely any rough. The difficulty hides in the ground beneath a player’s feet.

Approaches are played from slopes towards greens with several distinct levels. Land on the wrong one and a birdie chance can become a fight for par. Miss the putting surface and the ball may keep travelling, gathering speed towards water or a closely mown hollow.

The par fives offer the week’s clearest scoring chances. They also invite the boldest mistakes. That trade-off becomes especially sharp on the 13th and 15th, where one good swing can set up an eagle and one poor decision can wreck a round.

Then there is Amen Corner. It begins with the approach to the 11th, takes in the short but dangerous 12th and ends after the tee shot at the 13th. Wind around the 12th is difficult to read from ground level. Plenty of Masters challenges have disappeared into Rae’s Creek there.

Course knowledge counts for more at Augusta than it does at most tournaments. The venue stays the same each year, so old lessons don’t go to waste.

The invited field is smaller than those at the other three men’s majors. It brings together past champions, leading professionals and a group of amateurs who have qualified through selected events.

Everyone plays Thursday and Friday. The top 50 and ties then move on to the final two rounds.

A tie after Sunday’s 72nd hole leads straight to sudden death. The playoff starts at the 18th, followed by the 10th if required. One lower score is enough to win the Green Jacket.

Mike Weir gave Canadian golf its great Augusta afternoon in 2003. His playoff victory over Len Mattiace made him the first Canadian man to win a major. More than two decades on, he remains Canada’s only Masters champion.

Corey Conners has produced the strongest recent Canadian record. From 2020 to 2022, he finished inside the top ten three years in a row. He was eighth again in 2025, before a tougher week left him tied for 49th in 2026.

Conners’ iron play has always looked suited to Augusta. Whether he and other active Canadians appear in 2027 will depend on the final qualification picture. Weir can return as a past champion.

Picking the champion is the obvious place to begin, but it isn’t the only way into the tournament.

Outright Winner and Each-Way Betting

An outright bet is a wager on the golfer who will leave Augusta with the Green Jacket.

An each-way bet splits the stake between the golfer winning and finishing inside the advertised places. Put down $10 each way and the total stake is $20. Always look at the place fraction and number of places first, as the terms can change.

Top 5, Top 10 and Top 20

A finishing-position market can work when you fancy a strong week from a player but aren’t convinced he will win. Depending on availability, the options may include top-five, top-ten and top-20 finishes.

Ties matter here. Some markets include them; others apply dead-heat rules.

Make or Miss the Cut

There is also the 36-hole cut. You can back a golfer to make the weekend or miss it, although a withdrawal is dealt with under separate settlement rules.

At the Masters, the top 50 players and ties continue after Friday.

First-Round Leader and Round Betting

The first-round leader market is over after Thursday. Two or more players may share the lowest score, in which case dead-heat rules can apply.

Other round markets can focus on an individual player’s score, group betting or the lowest round of the day. These can be useful when you have a view on one set of tee times rather than the entire tournament.

Two-Balls, Three-Balls and Matchups

Group betting asks which golfer will shoot the best score among two or three named players.

Check whether a matchup covers one round or all four. The same golfers can appear in both versions, but the bets are settled over different periods.

Masters Specials

Closer to the tournament, the list may grow to include nationality markets, winning margin, hole-in-one betting and individual round scores. What appears will depend on availability at the time.

Few courses rearrange a leaderboard as quickly as Augusta. The final six holes contain two par fives, water, awkward pin positions and enough risk to change the lead more than once.

Live US Masters odds move with every score. Yet the number on the leaderboard does not tell you everything. A golfer who has already played the 13th and 15th is in a different position from one with both birdie chances still ahead.

Selected outright, finishing-position and group markets may remain available during play. Markets can pause while a shot is in the air or a score is being updated, so check the current price in the bet slip.

Rory McIlroy won the 2026 Masters at 12 under, one stroke clear of Scottie Scheffler. A final-round 71 was enough to hold off Scheffler’s late charge and make McIlroy only the fourth man to retain the title.

It wasn’t a quiet finish. McIlroy took a two-shot lead to the last, found trouble from the tee and closed with a bogey. Scheffler had already posted 11 under after a round of 68, leaving no room for a larger mistake.

Cameron Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley and Justin Rose shared third at ten under. Corey Conners finished tied for 49th.

Augusta Form

Past results carry unusual weight at the Masters because the course does not rotate. Players build up a bank of knowledge with every visit. They remember which flags to leave alone and where a missed green still offers a reasonable recovery.

That doesn’t mean course history should be read without context. Changes to a player’s swing, fitness or confidence can make an old result less relevant.

Approach Play and Putting

Augusta’s greens are large, but severe slopes divide them into distinct sections. An approach can technically find the putting surface and still leave a difficult two-putt.

Strong iron play helps golfers reach the correct level. Touch and imagination then matter whenever the ball runs into one of the collection areas around the green.

Recent Form

Results early in the 2027 season will shape the market. A golfer arriving after several strong finishes may shorten, particularly if the underlying play looks sustainable.

The opposite can happen after missed cuts, an injury concern or a run of poor approach play.

Weather

Rain softens the course and can make it play longer, which may favour the bigger hitters. Firm greens put more emphasis on control.

Wind is hardest to judge around the 12th, where the trees can hide what the ball will meet above them. Forecasts become more useful once tee times are known.
