In Canada and the UK, a political party can win an election with an overall majority or a minority count of the vote.

This market is suitable for those who bet on politics and want to predict whether or not the winner will triumph at the polls in a convincing (overall majority) or close (minority) victory. Generally speaking, the odds fluctuate throughout the Prime Minister’s term to reflect their perceived popularity with the public.

If you’re wagering on a candidate winner in the election betting odds, it's useful to know that there’s usually a favorite and an underdog based upon their perceived chances of winning. You can tell the difference easily: where the number on the left of the fraction is smaller than the right, this is the favorite. The greater the discrepancy between the two numbers, the more red-hot that the favorite is considered to be.

On the flip side, an underdog is a candidate where the larger number is on the left of the fraction than the right. For example, with the next President odds, Joe Biden would be the underdog if the prices on the market read Donald Trump 4/6 and Joe Biden 11/10.

The presidential election odds may feature more than one name, perhaps when there’s a long time until the next polling. In this case, all of the candidates may have positive fractional odds, but the pick with the smallest fraction will be considered the favor. For example: Donald Trump 11/10, Joe Biden 17/10, Gavin Newsom 4/1, Kamala Harris 8/1. Here, Trump is the favorite because his fraction yields a smaller return on bets than the other candidates.

You can work out the return from the odds for the next President betting markets by multiplying the number on the right of the fraction by that on the left. So, betting $10 on Trump would net $11 in profit (plus your $10 stake back for a total of $21).
