The 2027 US Open takes place from Thursday 17 June to Sunday 20 June at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.

Practice rounds and other championship activity begin earlier in the week, but the competitive tournament consists of four rounds. The field is reduced after Friday’s second round, with those surviving the cut returning for the weekend.

This will be the 127th edition of the championship and the seventh men’s US Open held at Pebble Beach.

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler leads the early US Open betting. His consistency across regular PGA Tour events and major championships makes him a natural favourite for a tournament where avoiding mistakes is often as important as making birdies.

Pebble Beach will demand accurate approach play and plenty of patience. Missing in the wrong place can leave a golfer with little chance of saving par, particularly when the greens become firm. Scheffler’s ability to limit costly errors helps explain his position at the head of the market.

Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is among Scheffler’s closest challengers. The 2011 US Open champion has the distance to take advantage of Pebble Beach’s scoring holes, although control with his shorter clubs could prove equally important.

His results at the championship have not always reflected his best form elsewhere. Winning at Pebble Beach will require four disciplined rounds rather than occasional bursts of low scoring.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is another leading contender. He won his first US Open title at Torrey Pines in 2021, while his short game gives him ways to recover when Pebble Beach becomes difficult.

Rahm also has experience competing on exposed coastal courses. Conditions can change quickly beside the Pacific, so his ability to control ball flight and manage difficult stretches could prove valuable.

Bryson DeChambeau

Two-time champion Bryson DeChambeau is firmly among the early favourites. His power can create opportunities from the tee, but Pebble Beach will also test his distance control and decision-making around its small greens.

DeChambeau has already shown that he can succeed under demanding US Open conditions. His ability to produce creative recovery shots may become particularly useful when players begin missing greens.

Ludvig Åberg

Ludvig Åberg is also prominent in the outright betting. He has less major experience than several players around him in the market, but his driving and composed style have already allowed him to contend against strong fields.

The next step is putting four rounds together under the pressure of a US Open. Pebble Beach should provide a clear test of his course management and short game.

Previous Champions

Former champions Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele are among the other notable contenders in the wider market.

Clark arrives as the defending champion after winning at Shinnecock Hills in 2026. That was his second US Open victory following his breakthrough title in 2023, while Fitzpatrick became champion at The Country Club in 2022.

Corey Conners is among the leading Canadian names who could feature at Pebble Beach. He finished tied ninth in 2024 and tied 23rd at Shinnecock Hills in 2026, showing that his accurate tee-to-green game can hold up in demanding US Open conditions.

Who Is Favourite to Win the 2027 US Open?

Pebble Beach is famous for its views, but the scenery does not make it gentle.

Several holes run directly along the Pacific coastline. Wind direction can alter club selection, while small greens place pressure on approach shots. There are opportunities to score, yet an aggressive decision can quickly lead to a bogey or worse if the ball finishes on the wrong side of a green.

The stretch from the sixth to the tenth is particularly important. It follows the edge of Carmel Bay and contains a mixture of elevation changes, exposed shots and awkward angles. The par-three seventh may be extremely short, but judging the wind on such a small target is rarely straightforward.

The par-five 18th offers one final scoring opportunity beside the ocean. It can also decide the championship if a leader finds trouble from the tee.

Pebble Beach last hosted the men’s US Open in 2019. Gary Woodland finished 13 under and beat Brooks Koepka by three shots. Conditions and course preparation will determine whether the winning total is anywhere near that low in 2027.

The course has produced very different championships. Tiger Woods won by 15 shots in 2000, while Jack Nicklaus was the only player to finish within two shots of par in 1972.

Weather played a large part in those differences. Pebble Beach can be accessible when the air is calm and the greens remain receptive. Add firm surfaces and a strong coastal wind, and the same holes become far less forgiving.

Each-Way Betting

Clark led after each round and entered Sunday one shot ahead of Sam Burns. A final-round 70 kept him in front, giving him a one-stroke victory and his second US Open title.

Burns finished alone in second at three under. Tom Kim was the only other player to complete the championship below par, ending the week in third at one under. Corey Conners was the leading Canadian and tied for 23rd on five over.
