2027 British Open Odds

St Andrews can create a different market from the other majors. Power helps when the wind drops and the Old Course plays fast, but enormous fairways do not remove every decision from the tee. The angle of the next shot often matters more than simply finding short grass.

Results during the first half of 2027 will reshape the betting. Recent links form, performances in the season’s first three majors and the weather forecast may all move a golfer’s price before Thursday.

Check the market above for the current outright odds.

When Is the 2027 British Open?

The four tournament rounds run from Thursday 15 July to Sunday 18 July 2027. The wider championship week begins on Sunday 11 July, with practice and other activities taking place before the opening round.

After 36 holes, the cut reduces the field for the weekend. The remaining players complete Saturday and Sunday before the Champion Golfer of the Year is crowned.

St Andrews Old Course Guide

The Old Course first hosted The Open in 1873. No venue has staged it more often, and its winners include Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods.

The course looks inviting from several tees. Its opening and closing holes share an exceptionally wide fairway, while seven double greens create unusual targets.

That space can be deceptive. The safest route frequently leaves an awkward approach over a bunker or towards a difficult section of the green. A bolder line may open the flag but bring out of bounds, gorse or one of the course’s deep pot bunkers into play.

The 17th, known as the Road Hole, is the most famous example. Players drive over part of the Old Course Hotel towards a narrow green guarded by the Road Hole Bunker. Go long and the road or wall awaits.

Then comes the reachable 18th, where a late birdie remains possible. Swilcan Burn, out of bounds and the Valley of Sin ensure the closing hole is not entirely harmless.

Wind changes everything. The same hole can ask for a short iron on one day and a much longer approach on another. Firm ground also allows the ball to run through swales and across greens, rewarding players who can picture a shot rather than always flying it directly at the flag.

British Open Favourites 2027

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler won The Open at Royal Portrush in 2025. St Andrews gives him room to drive, though his approach control may be even more valuable when aiming for the correct level of its huge greens.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy won at Royal Liverpool in 2014 and shares the Open course record of 63 at St Andrews. His length creates birdie chances, provided he avoids the bunkers and remains patient when the wind changes.

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau can take aggressive lines and shorten several par fours. Power alone will not settle the week; judging the bounce and controlling long putts will matter too.

Jon Rahm

Rahm tied for third here in 2022. His low ball flight, imagination and strength around the greens should suit the Old Course when conditions become awkward.

Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg

Schauffele lifted the Claret Jug in 2024 and brings a balanced major-championship record. Åberg offers length and controlled ball striking, although the Old Course will test his ability to adapt to changing wind and unusual sightlines.

Ryan Fox

Fox defends the title after a third-round 62 and closing birdie carried him to victory at Royal Birkdale. His power and links experience give him a route into contention again.

How The Open Championship Works

The Open is a four-round stroke-play tournament. Every shot counts towards a golfer’s 72-hole total, and the lowest score wins the Claret Jug.

A cut follows Friday’s second round. Players outside the qualifying positions are eliminated, while those who remain complete two further rounds over the weekend.

If the lead is tied after 72 holes, the players involved enter a four-hole aggregate playoff. The lowest combined score across those holes wins. If they are still level, sudden death follows.

Canadian Golfers at The Open

Canadian interest will depend on the final qualification list. Corey Conners, Nick Taylor, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Hadwin may feature if they meet the relevant criteria.

Canada has yet to produce a Champion Golfer of the Year. Mike Weir came closest among the country’s recent major winners when he tied for third at Royal Troon in 2004.

Nationality markets may become available nearer the event. Confirm which golfers are included before backing the top Canadian selection.

British Open Betting Markets

Outright Winner and Each-Way Betting

An outright bet backs one golfer to win The Open. Each-way betting splits the stake between the win and place portions.

The number of places and fraction paid can change, so read the displayed terms before confirming the bet.

Top 5, Top 10 and Top 20 Finishes

Finishing-position markets do not require the golfer to win. A top-ten wager succeeds when the selection ends inside the stated places, subject to the applicable tie rules.

Dead-heat deductions may apply when several players share the final qualifying place.

Make or Miss the Cut

This market concerns whether a golfer progresses beyond the opening 36 holes. A withdrawal or disqualification may be settled differently from an ordinary missed cut, depending on the rules.

First-Round Leader

The first-round leader is the player with the lowest score after Thursday. If two or more golfers share that score, dead-heat rules may apply.

One half of the draw can occasionally receive calmer weather. Tee times and the forecast are therefore particularly relevant to this market.

Two-Balls, Three-Balls and Matchups

Round betting compares golfers playing together on a particular day. A tournament matchup instead runs across the entire event.

Check the title before selecting. The same pair of golfers can appear in both versions even though the settlement period is different.

British Open Specials

Other markets may include top nationality, winning margin, hole-in-one betting, round scores and playoff betting.

Live British Open Betting

Open odds can move quickly when the wind rises or a leader reaches the closing holes. A golfer with the short seventh and reachable ninth still ahead faces a different route from someone approaching the Road Hole.

Selected outright, finishing-position and group markets may remain available during play. They can be suspended while a shot is completed or the leaderboard updates.

Check the selection, current price and potential return in the bet slip before placing a live wager.

Who Won the 2026 British Open?

Ryan Fox won the 2026 Open at Royal Birkdale with a 10-under total of 270.

The New Zealander sat tied for 52nd after two rounds before matching the major championship record with a Saturday 62. On Sunday he birdied four of the final six holes, including the 18th, to beat Cameron Young by one shot.

Sam Burns finished third, with Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood sharing fourth. Fox became the second New Zealander to lift the Claret Jug after Bob Charles in 1963.

What Can Affect British Open Odds?

Links Form

Experience on firm, coastal courses can help, although St Andrews has wider fairways and larger greens than many links venues.

Approach Play and Putting

Finding a green is not enough when a putt may cross a ridge or cover more than 60 feet. Distance control remains crucial.

Weather and Tee Times

Wind can alter the best driving line, bring different bunkers into range and favour one side of the draw.

Rain softens the course and reduces roll. Dry conditions bring the slopes and hard ground further into play.

Recent Form and Fitness

Results from the US Masters, PGA Championship and US Open will shape the market before July.

Fitness news matters too. Check recent withdrawals and credible updates before placing a bet on somebody carrying an injury concern.
