Badminton Betting Markets & Odds

Badminton is one of the fastest-paced racquet sports in the world. Originally developed in India, it has now spread across the globe and has a huge level of popularity. Played by hitting a shuttlecock using a racquet, it can be played in singles and doubles competitions.

This guide tells you everything you need to know about wagering on badminton. From how to place your first bet to the markets available, we have everything to help you get started.

Reasons to Bet on Badminton

Badminton bets are not as popular as many other sports such as football and boxing. Only the best providers will allow you to bet on major tournaments and events. Yet when you do, badminton offers a whole new experience.

Many of the bet types may remain the same, but it is the fast-paced nature of the sport that will keep things interesting. The aim of the game is for a player or doubles team to win the best of three games, each of which goes up to 21 points.

Points are scored on each serve, so scores can quickly change or begin to accumulate. When you introduce live betting to this high-scoring sport, it starts to get very entertaining.

What Are the Badminton Betting Markets?

You don’t just have to bet on the outright winner of a badminton match. There are plenty of other ways you can wager which you can find on our page here. Some of the most popular are outlined below to help you along.

Totals

Totals betting is also known as over/under betting. It is a way of betting on the combined score of both teams or players in an event. The bookmaker will decide on an outcome before the game, and you have to decide if the total will be over or under that amount.

Imagine you have Viktor Axelson playing against Anthony Ginting. The bookmaker will decide on a number that is the predicted combined points each will score in the game. They will then give odds for that being over or under, and as the bettor you just have to decide which you think is most likely and then place your stake.

Parlays

A parlay bet combines multiple bets into one total. You may come across them being named accumulators when you bet outside of Canada. It involves making two or more bets which must come up to win. While they are less likely to happen, they do offer higher winning totals. For example, you may bet on the outcomes of multiple matches in a parlay bet and you will need all of them to be correct to win.

Props

Prop betting involves betting on an outcome in a match, other than the winner. Usually, this is tied to statistics. For example, you may bet on the total number of faults a player makes in a match.

Moneyline

A moneyline bet is a bet made on whether a player or team will win or lose. Each player or team in doubles will either have a positive inference for the underdog, and a negative inference for the team expected to win. A negative number shows how much you must take to win $100. A positive shows how much you will gain if you bet $100.

Tips for Betting on Badminton

When betting on badminton, it helps to do some research beforehand. You may be able to spot drops and positive changes to their form or strategies. You'll be able to find many of the important statistics online, either through the bookmakers or through badminton websites.

Make sure you also look at the tournament itself, as well as the player. Different tournaments will have varied rules, such as knock-out stages and league tables.

You may even find that tournaments in some parts of the world cause players to have jetlag, particularly if they have only recently played elsewhere. Even the temperature in a stadium can have an impact on how the shuttlecock travels and how well players fare.

But just remember, whilst research is important for making your selections, outcomes are very difficult to predict and it can't guarantee a win.
