Area Link Dragon Ascension Slot Game Review

Area Link Dragon Ascension by AreaVegas builds on the familiar Area Link setup, adding layered upgrades and a respin feature that can evolve in several directions. With five reels and a set of dragon-themed modifiers, it focuses on collecting symbols and triggering upgraded rounds rather than constant line hits.

Theme & Graphic

This is one of those online slots that jumps right into the action. The game opens straight onto a dragon’s den, somewhere in the heart of an active volcano. Flames and sparks rise from the depth, while a golden dragon stares down the player from the side of the grid.

The 5x3 grid itself is pretty simple, but it’s adorned by six glowing dragon eggs in different colours. These interact with fireballs when they land on the grid, but more about that later. The symbols themselves are nine to ace card ranks, and a  selection of horde dragon treasures like rings, necklaces and chests of gold.

The soundtrack is ok, slot effects backed by a sinister instrumental track, but it could use a bit more variety.

  • The dragon symbol acts as a Wild, stepping in for most symbols to help complete winning lines. It also carries the highest potential value when landing in full combinations.
  • Fireball symbols trigger the main feature.

Bonus Features

Area Link Feature

The core mechanic revolves around fireball symbols and a standard respin setup where the feature begins with three respins, all fireballs lock into place and new ones landin during the round, reset the respin counter each time.

Each fireball carries a value or a fixed prize, including Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand rewards and filling the entire grid leads to the top prize potential tied to the feature.

Dragon Upgrades

Collected fireballs feed into coloured dragon eggs, each unlocking a different modifier:

  • Green Dragon: Applies random multipliers to values as they appear
  • Purple and Pink Dragons: Add extra grids, allowing multiple boards to run at once
  • Red Dragon: Instantly collects values when special fireballs land
  • Blue Dragon: Transfers value between symbols
  • Orange Dragon: Increases values over time during spins

These upgrades can combine, creating layered effects across one or more grids.

Dragon Ascension

A special version of the feature can trigger with a random mix of upgrades already active. Instead of building toward them, the round begins with multiple modifiers in place, creating a more complex setup from the start.

Spin Mechanics

The game runs on a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 20 paylines and, as usual, wins form from left to right, starting on the first reel. Standard spins focus on lining up matching symbols, while the feature system shifts the structure toward locked symbols and respins.

Fireball symbols are central to the overall flow. Rather than appearing as standard scatter-style triggers, they feed directly into the upgrade system. When enough appear, the game transitions into the Area Link feature, where reels no longer spin in the usual way and instead work through respin cycles.

Multiple grids can appear during upgraded rounds, each operating independently. That adds a layered feel, with several outcomes playing out at once rather than a single board.

Similar Slots

  • Area Link Wolf keeps things simple on the surface with wolves and moons, but the real focus is the Area Link feature, where those glowing moons lock in and build toward different upgrades and jackpots.
  • Area Link Bank Boss goes for a cash and piggy bank setup, with a feature that can drop in and switch things up quickly, giving the base game a more stop-start kind of rhythm.
  • Area Link Phoenix Firestorm sticks with the familiar format but adds more going on during the feature, with fireballs, modifiers, and fixed prizes all stacking into the same round..

BetVictor’s Opinion

Area Link Dragon Ascension takes a familiar dragon setup and pushes it into a heavier, more layered direction. The base game is straightforward, but the feature system brings more action, especially once upgrades begin to combine. We found the visual approach works well with the mechanics, as the darker tone matches the more involved feature rounds.

The upgrade combinations are where the game shows its depth. Some rounds stay simple, while others expand into multiple grids with different effects running at once.

We think it will appeal most to casino players who enjoy feature-driven slots with evolving mechanics. The dragon theme is familiar, but the layered upgrades give it a different pace compared to more traditional setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

The reels switch into a respin mode where fireball symbols lock in place. Each new fireball resets the counter and adds either a value or a fixed prize, building the total as the round continues.

Each dragon colour alters how the feature plays. Some add multipliers, others unlock extra grids or increase values, and some instantly collect prizes. Combined effects can create multiple variations of the feature.

The base game delivers standard line wins and helps trigger the feature through fireball symbols. While most big wins come from feature rounds, the base spins are essential for activating them.
