Manchester City came away from 2025/26 with two trophies and still had something to be disappointed about. They chased Arsenal for much of the league season, eventually finishing second on 78 points, seven behind the champions. The FA Cup and League Cup softened that blow considerably.
City were hardly short of goals. They scored 77 in the Premier League and conceded 35, while Erling Haaland supplied 27 himself. That was enough for another Golden Boot, his third in four seasons in England.
The bigger change came afterwards. Guardiola left after ten years and 20 major trophies, with former City coach Enzo Maresca returning to take charge. It makes 2026/27 unusual territory for a club that had become almost inseparable from one manager.
There’s no great mystery about which Manchester City stats matter now. Haaland will score goals. More revealing will be how often City shut teams out, whether they keep control of tight matches and how much attacking support comes from elsewhere.
