Coventry City aren’t returning to the Premier League on the back of a cautious promotion campaign. Frank Lampard’s side went after teams throughout 2025/26, finished top of the Championship with 95 points and scored 97 goals along the way. Nobody else in the division came particularly close to matching that attacking total.
There was plenty of substance behind the entertainment. Coventry won 28 of their 46 league games and conceded 45 times, giving them a goal difference of +52. Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth also kept 16 clean sheets, so this wasn’t simply a case of trying to outscore every opponent.
Perhaps the most encouraging part was how the goals were shared around. Haji Wright, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms all contributed heavily, while Victor Torp and Jack Rudoni added threat from midfield. That variety gave Lampard options rather than leaving the promotion push dependent on one forward.
The challenge changes completely in 2026/27. Coventry are back in the Premier League for the first time since 2001, and the same spaces simply won’t appear as often. How their scoring rate holds up, particularly away from home, should tell us plenty about how quickly they’ve adjusted.

The current Premier League betting section provides the wider competition picture, while goals scored, clean sheets and Lampard’s attacking balance are probably the Coventry City stats most worth tracking.
