Who won the 2020 Tour de France?

The overall general classification winner of the 2020 Tour, better known as the yellow jersey winner, was Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar from UAE Team Emirates.

Pogačar had a fantastic Tour all-round, also winning the young rider and mountains classifications, making him the first-ever cyclist to win the yellow, white, and polka dot jerseys in the same Tour. Pogačar wasn’t amongst the favourites going into the 2020 Tour, which shows how difficult it can be to call.

The 2020 points classification, the secondary contest in the Tour de France, was won by Irish cyclist Sam Bennett from team Deceuninck–Quick-Step. Whilst the team classification was won by Movistar Team.

What is the hardest stage in the Tour de France?

The Tour de France changes route each year, and the stages change each Tour. In the 2020 Tour de France, stage 13, with 7 climbs up the Massif Central mountain range, and stage 17, with a drawn-out climb in the French Alps, were widely regarded as the toughest stages. The route of the 2021 Tour de France was unveiled in November 2020, and back-to-back mountain climbs in stages 17 and 18 look like the toughest so far.

Different types of stages can be tougher for different cyclists, however. Long stages can drain some riders, steep climbs in mountain stages can test the stamina of others, whilst some cyclists relish a muscle-draining climb. If you get to know the top cyclists and their preferences, you can pick a winner and make the right bets on the individual stages.
