Ice Hockey Betting

Hockey is one of the most popular sports across Canada, with plenty of teams taking to the ice on a weekly basis. There are plenty of different hockey competitions for fans to look forward to, with the most infamous being the NHL. The action comes thick and fast in the National Hockey League, which consists of 1,312 games each season. There are 32 teams in total, all of which play 41 home games and 41 away games to determine which squads will make the NHL playoffs.

Here at BetVictor, we have a huge selection of hockey betting options, including NHL odds and a variety of different markets for games across all major hockey tournaments around the world!

Ice Hockey Betting Markets & Odds

There are plenty of different hockey betting markets to choose from at BetVictor, which are valid across a variety of tournaments. Some of the most popular markets can be seen below!

Money Line

In hockey betting terms, the 'Money Line' refers to which team will walk away from the match with a win. The score doesn't matter and should overtime be needed, the 'Money Line' bet will cover it. This means that if your chosen team wins in overtime, the bet will still be marked as a successful one.

Puck Line

The 'Puck Line' is similar to handicap betting markets in soccer, with a number of points being taken away from the favored team or added to the underdogs, in an attempt to make the game as even as possible.

Punters betting on this option must take the mentioned handicap into account when betting, as the chosen team must overcome this in order for the bet to be marked as a successful one. For example, betting on the Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 against the Dallas Stars would mean that the Maple Leafs must win by at least 2 clear points, in order for them to cover the -1.5 puck line.

Total Goals

As the name suggests, this market involves deciding whether the total number of goals scored during a game will be over or under a specified number. For example, betting over 6.5 goals on a game would mean that a minimum of 7 goals will be needed in order for the bet to be awarded at the displayed odds.

Win/Draw/Win

The win/draw/win hockey betting market is similar to the 'Money Line' wager, however, it also takes a draw into account during regular play. If the scores are tied at the end of regular play, bets on either team to win will be marked as a loss, while all wagers placed on a draw will be awarded at the corresponding odds.

Team To Score First

This straightforward hockey market involves picking the team you think will find the back of the net first. A few variations of this bet exist, too, allowing punters to bet on which team they think will score the 2nd, 3rd, or last goal etc.

Outright Hockey Betting

In addition to placing a bet on a specific game, punters can also wager on the performance of a team throughout the season. For example, the most popular outright hockey betting market is the Stanley Cup Winner, which is open throughout the NHL season and before the first games are played.

This market allows punters to place a bet on which team they think will win the Stanley Cup outright at the end of the season, with each game throughout the season having the potential to influence this bet. Other popular outright hockey betting options include the winner of the NHL Eastern Conference, the Atlantic Division, and the Central Division, alongside many others.

Bet on the NHL and Stanley Cup

With thousands of hockey games played on a yearly basis, punters have plenty of different leagues and tournaments to look out for, including the NHL and Stanley Cup. Some of the top ice hockey competitions to bet on include:

  • NHL - The NHL, or the National Hockey League, is the most followed hockey event in the world. It features 32 teams from across the United States and Canada, with an average of over 4 million viewers per game in the 2023/24 season.
  • Elite League - This is the top level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom, which was formed in 2003 after the Ice Hockey Superleague dissolved.
  • Swiss League - Another popular hockey tournament to bet on is the Swiss League, which is the second level of competition in Switzerland behind the National League.
  • Deutsche Eishockey Liga - The Deutsche Eishockey Liga is the top level of ice hockey in Germany. It was founded in 1994 and features 14 different teams from across the country.

Of course, there are plenty of other hockey betting events to choose from in our extensive sportsbook, too, such as the Women's World Championships and the 4 Nations Face-Off.
