2026 Grand National Odds & Betting Markets

The Grand National is one of the most iconic horse races. Taking place at Aintree Racecourse on Merseyside annually, the race has been going since 1839 and is a steeplechase run over a distance of four miles and two and a half furlongs, roughly. The runners will make two laps of the course and jump a total of thirty fences.

As far as jump races go, the Grand National is the richest, with a prize fund of £1,000,000, with at least half of that going to the winner. What makes the Grand National unique is that casual fans of the sport will search out horse racing betting odds for the Grand National, and it may be the only bet they have on horse racing all year.

The Grand National takes place on the final day of a three-day festival at Aintree Racecourse. The race always happens in April, which is the month after the Cheltenham Festival, which takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse in March.

What are the Grand National betting markets?

As one of the most popular horse races to bet on in the sport, here are the major markets for the race.

To Win Market

As mentioned above, a lot of people only bet on one horse race a year, and that’s the Grand National. So, they will, more often than not, back a horse to win. Because the race has so many runners in it and is such a test over a long distance with thirty jumps, it means even the favourite to win is usually available at big odds. Last year’s winner, Corach Rambler, was available at odds of 8/1 ahead of the race.

Each Way Betting

Again, because of the challenge the Grand National poses and how big the field is. And because the odds are generally high enough. Some punters will look to bet on horses each way, which means that they ideally win but just need to place, usually in the first four. An each-way bet is often considered a safer bet because it gives bettors more options to win something. In the Grand National, it’s also possible for a horse at a huge price to place, such as Santini at 33-1 in 2022.

Forecast Betting

Forecast betting is another popular type of bet where the Grand National is concerned, probably because of the big prices that are available. A forecast would mean predicting the winner and second in order, or if going with a reverse forecast, in any order. It would have meant predicting Corach Rambler, the favourite, and Vanillier, a 20/1 shot, to come first and second in 2023 if going with a straight forecast.
