From Andre Agassi’s comeback of all comebacks in 1999, Rafael Nadal battling it out with Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals in 2013, to Steffi Graf triumphing over Martina Hingis in 1999 and Graf losing to Monica Seles in 1992, it’s safe to say the clay courts of Roland-Garros have seen some sublime tennis action down the years.
The second of the four Grand Slam tournaments, the French Open is the only one held on clay and truly puts its competitors to the test over two weeks in the Parisian sunshine between May and June every year.

When it comes to the men’s game one man simply is the undisputed King of Paris. Step up to serve, Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard has conquered all before him at Roland-Garros and is the greatest of all time on these courts.
He has completely dominated since taking his first title in 2005. He won four on the bounce from 2005 to 2008 and then became the first ever to take five on the trot winning each year from 2010 to 2014. After not triumphing for two years he was back on top in 2017, 2018 and 2019. His form here has seen him claim the record number of titles in any of the four Slams from both the men’s and women’s game. When he’s here, of course, he’s the favourite.
Whether you’re backing Nadal, one of the other top seeds or even one of the wildcards, our French Open betting odds include the full field taking part in the tournament.
As is often the case with the women’s game, things are a little more open. Chris Evert is the all-time top performer with seven titles, while both Monica Seles and Justine Henin have the most consecutive titles with three apiece. Henin was the last to retain her title in 2007 meaning there is always plenty of value in the French Open odds for the outright winner of the women’s championship.
