How many teams are in the CFL?
Founded in 1958, the Canadian Football League (CFL) is a hotbed of football talents. The CFL consists of nine teams and usually runs from mid-June to early November. Similar to the NHL, the CFL’s sides are split into two divisions: the East Division and the West Division.
Four teams compete in the East Division (Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Ottawa Redblacks and Toronto Argonauts). The other five clubs compete in the West Division (BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers).
The regular season runs for 21 weeks, with each club playing each other twice. The teams also meet in two divisional matches with rivals rotating every season. Following this structure, each team gets three bye weeks. Six teams qualify for the Play-offs at the end of the season, which usually take place in November. The two division champions face each other in the Grey Cup (or Coupe Grey in French), one of Canada’s largest sporting events.
At BetVictor we are committed to bringing you the best of CFL Betting.
Which CFL team has the most Grey Cups?
The Grey Cup is the showpiece event in Canadian football drawing a TV audience of around four million people every year. First introduced in 1909 by the Earl Grey, the Grey Cup is the milestone for every Canadian football team.
Toronto has hosted most of the Grey Cup games (48), with the Toronto Varsity Blues winning the first title in 1909. The city of Toronto has enjoyed most of the success in the CFL. The Toronto Argonauts – The Argos – are the most successful team in the league (17 titles to date) and were runners-up on six occasions. Alberta's Edmonton Elks are the second most successful CFL club with 14 wins, followed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (11).
The Bombers hold the record for most appearances in the CFL. They celebrated their eleventh win in the 2019-20 season, when they beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-12. Will they do it again in the 2021-21 season?
With so many incredible teams, the CFL is a thrilling competition to bet on each year! Don’t miss out – join the action with BetVictor!
