The St Leger takes place at Doncaster Racecourse in September of each year and is open to three-year-old colts and fillies. It is the oldest of the five British Classics and the final one of the season, as well as being the last leg of the Triple Crown (after the 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby).
Some iconic horses have won the St Leger previously. Theodore won with the longest odds (200/1) in 1822, Western Australian was first in 1853 and became the first to complete the Triple Crown, while 1954 winner Never Say Die won by the most lengths

You can also get St Leger odds on markets including Place Betting and Betting Without Favourite. And with our head-to-head markets, you bet on one horse to finish ahead of another.
We give you all the information you need before placing a bet on St Leger. Underneath each runner is a ‘more information’ tab, where you will find details such as age, weight, form, trainer and jockey, plus a star rating.
John Scott is the top trainer in St Leger history. Nicknamed ‘The Wizard of the North’, he trained 16 race winners between 1827 and 1862, starting with Matilda and ending with The Marquis.
More recently, Aidan O’Brien has had the magic touch in this race. The Irishman has trained seven St Leger winners overall, including back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018 with Capri and Kew Gardens. Meanwhile, John Gosden has secured five wins since 1996, including Logician, who recorded the fastest winning time in 2019 (3m, 00.27s).
St Leger’s leading jockey is Bill Scott, riding nine winners between 1821 and 1846. Lester Piggott is one behind Scott with eight wins; he rode some famous champions between 1960 and 1984, including Commanche Run, Aurelius and Nijinsky.
Frankie Dettori has been one of the top jockeys more recently. The Italian has six wins in the St Leger and was on board for Logician’s record-breaking victory in 2019.
