Gonzita's Quest is NetEnt's follow-up to one of its best-known releases, introducing a new explorer while keeping the familiar avalanche gameplay. The game mixes cascading wins with a bonus feature that revolves around collecting valuable stone slabs and a free spins round, where upgraded reels can unlock increasingly valuable prizes. 

The original Gonzo’s Quest made a big splash in the online slots world and inspired multiple follow ups that followed the travels and travails of Gonzalo Pizzaro, a Spanish conquistador. Now NetEnt has decided it’s time for us to meet his little sister, Gonzita! 

The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree, and Gonzita is also bravely exploring the South American jungle and has stumbled on an ancient temple. The grid is set in an old stone ruin, obviously once a place of importance judging by the carvings and decorations. And as the symbols fall away, we catch a glimpse of an imposing Aztec pyramid. Gonzita stands by the grid waiting to spring into action, and the soundtrack is birdsong and drums.

Avalanche Wins 

Winning symbols disappear after every successful combination, allowing new symbols to fall into place. This continues until no further winning combinations are formed. 

Stone Slab Bonus 

The bonus feature transforms the middle reel into Gonzita's throne while the remaining reels fill with stone slabs. Slabs carrying multiplier values stay in place until an entire reel is filled, at which point Gonzita collects the total before the reel resets. 

Reel Upgrades 

Each time a reel is completed and collected, it upgrades to a higher prize tier. Standard stone slabs can progress to Golden Slabs before eventually reaching Diamond Slabs, with each upgrade offering larger potential values. 

Extra Spins 

Every multiplier stone slab that lands resets the remaining free spins back to three, allowing the feature to continue as long as new multiplier slabs keep appearing. 

Gonzita's Quest is played on a 5x3 reel layout with 20 paylines. Wins are created by landing matching symbols from left to right across active paylines. 

The avalanche mechanic removes winning symbols before new ones fall into place, creating the chance for consecutive wins from a single paid spin. Unlike the original Gonzo's Quest, there are no multipliers during the base game, so the biggest moments are largely reserved for the bonus feature and its reel upgrade system.

We like that Gonzita's Quest doesn't simply copy Gonzo's Quest from start to finish. The jungle setting still looks great, but the stone slab feature gives the bonus round its own identity.
