The Europa League is European football’s secondary club competition that is organised and hosted by UEFA. The previous running of the Europa League may have just ended, but the next Europa League campaign begins shortly, starting with the qualifying rounds. There will be a significant change this time around, as the competition proper will see the number of teams involved increase from thirty-two to thirty-six. 

Qualifying for the Europa League begins on July 11 and will conclude on August 29, with the competition proper running between September 25, 2024 and May 21, 2025. Atalanta, who won the 2023/24 Europa League title, cannot, therefore, defend their crown under any circumstance this season. Whereas, if they could drop into the Europa League from the Champions League, as they could have in the past, it would’ve been possible. 

The 2024/24 Europa League final is due to be held at the San Mames Stadium, which is the home of La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao. Bilbao themselves have qualified for the Europa League after finishing fifth in La Liga last term. So, should they make the final, they’d be playing on home turf.
