Darts Odds World Championship Betting Odds

The Darts World Championship is the premier event in professional darts. Organised and hosted annually by the Professional Darts Corporation, or PDC, and held at London’s Alexandra Palace, this is the biggest darts competition in the sport. Ninety-six of the world’s best darts players compete for the iconic Sid Waddell Trophy and a prize fund worth £2.5 million.

The Darts World Championship of 2024/25 will begin on December 15, 2024 and run until January 3, 2025. Luke Humphries, the world number one, is the defending champion after he defeated the then-rising star of the sport, Luke Littler, in the 2024 final. Humphries has had a great season so far and is looking good as the World Championship comes into view.

The competition has become renowned for its intense atmosphere, the world-class talent on show, and the dramatic moments. Players battle it out in a set-play format, with matches becoming longer as the tournament progresses towards the final. As always, there will be a brief break between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, with the action then resuming. This year’s final is the first to be held on a Friday since 2020.

What are Darts Odds World Championship Betting Markets?

The Darts World Championship is one of the most popular darts tournaments to bet on, with a variety of betting markets available for the event.

Outright Winner Market

The most popular and the most straightforward bet for the Darts World Championship is on which player will win the tournament. Odds are typically offered for all players who are playing in the event, and the favourites, which include reigning champion Luke Humphries and former world champion Michael van Gerwen, receive shorter odds than most. Long-term betting potential is offered because the market is open ahead of the beginning of the action. It remains open throughout, and odds are regularly updated.

Match Handicap Betting

Because of how the Darts World Championship works, it’s possible that there will be a huge favourite taking on a lesser-known player. Therefore, the odds will be affected. Match handicap betting attempts to make it viable to bet on the favourite or the underdog by giving the former a disadvantage in terms of sets and the latter a boost by providing them sets. For example, Luke Humphries could play a relatively unknown player, and the handicap could see him start at -2.5 sets.

Total 180s Market

Hitting 180s is the bread and butter of many of the world’s leading darts players. And, at the Darts World Championship, there will often be matches where each player throws multiple 180s. The total 180s market allows punters to bet in an under or overs format on how many 180s will be thrown during the tournament or during a single match.

Some of the biggest names in Darts have won the PDC World Championship. Phil Taylor holds the record for most titles with 16, with the last coming in 2013. Since then, five different players have gone all the way and secured victory at Alexandra Palace.

In 2024, Luke Humphries came to the fore and claimed his first World Championship trophy after defeating teenage sensation Luke Littler in the final. Humphries had been rising through the ranks at a steady pace, and this was his breakthrough moment on the biggest of stages.

Michael Smith won his maiden Darts World Championship in 2023 when he got the better of Michael van Gerwen in a thrilling final. Bully Boy put in a remarkable performance, which included a historic nine-dart finish.

Before Smith’s victory, Peter Wright was the World Champion, as it was he who defeated Bully Boy in the 2022 final. Smith, known for his colourful hairstyles, remained calm under pressure, and he had the consistency to get the better of the future World Champion.

Who are the Favourites to Win in Darts Odds World Championship?

As the 2025 PDC Darts World Championship approaches, there’s already talk about which players will be in the running to win the iconic event. As you’d expect, Luke Humphries is at the forefront because he’s the defending champion and the best player on the planet right now. However, he will face stiff competition.

Luke Littler, who Humphries defeated in the 2024 final, has won multiple events since, including Premier League Darts and the Darts World Series. In 2022, Michael Smith was the beaten finalist, and he came back with a vengeance in 2023 to win the tournament. Could Littler follow suit?

Michael van Gerwen is a veteran of the game these days, but he’s a multiple-time winner of the Darts World Championship, and he’s always there or thereabouts in this tournament. He will be a popular choice among punters.

Other potential candidates include Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith, who are both former winners of the Sid Waddell Trophy. They will be hoping to get back into the winner’s circle in 2025.
