Great Ghosts! Slot Game Review

Pragmatic Play has taken its usual three-pot setup and moved it into a haunted mansion, which at least makes a change from the usual parade of treasure chests and polished temples. Great Ghosts! runs with a 5x4 layout, 50 paylines, and a respin feature that can expand the grid while stacking money symbols and modifiers.

The base game is fairly plain, so this one lives or dies on what happens once the scatters start building toward the main feature. There is decent weight behind that feature too, which helps Great Ghosts! feel more substantial than its cartoonish ghosts first suggest.

Theme & Graphic

Great Ghosts! goes for haunted house theatrics without trying too hard to be sinister. The setting is an old mansion with candles, staircases, drifting smoke, and the occasional spectral hand, but the actual character symbols are more cheerful than chilling. They look like they wandered in from a family friendly ghost story rather than anything designed to keep us awake at night.

That softer look works better than expected. The game does not need to be genuinely creepy to sell the theme, and the contrast between the spooky backdrop and the friendly faces gives it a slightly odd charm. Among online slots, it is one of those games that looks light on the surface, then quietly hides the serious part in the feature math.

Payout Table

Great Ghosts! splits its paytable between low royals and three character symbols, with the wild sitting well above both in terms of standard return.

Symbol Payout for 3, 4, 5 of a kind
9 0.10, 0.30, 0.40
10 0.10, 0.30, 0.40
J 0.10, 0.10, 0.40
Q 0.20, 0.40, 0.70
K 0.20, 0.40, 0.70
A 0.20, 0.40, 0.70
Older Gentleman 0.30, 0.50, 1.00
Boy 0.40, 0.80, 2.00
Older Lady 0.60, 1.50, 2.50
Wild 1.50, 10.00, 100.00

Special Symbols

  • Wild: The Wild substitutes for all regular paying symbols. It does not replace the blue, green, or pink scatter symbols.
  • Blue Scatter: Blue scatters feed the blue pot and can help trigger the respin feature with the Upgrade modifier.
  • Pink Scatter: Pink scatters feed the pink pot and can bring in the Mystery modifier during the respin round.
  • Green Scatter: Green scatters feed the green pot and can add the Extra modifier to the respin round.

Bonus Features

Blue Scatter and Upgrade Modifier

Blue scatters are tied to the Upgrade modifier. When this modifier is active during the respin feature, zones appear on the grid and improve the value of any money symbols caught inside them. That can make a noticeable difference quite quickly, especially once more positions open up.

It is the most direct of the three modifiers. It does not change how the feature works, but it can make the existing symbols far more valuable, which is obviously the sort of help we are not inclined to argue with.

Pink Scatter and Mystery Modifier

Pink scatters bring in the Mystery modifier. This adds pink money symbols to the respin round, and their values are set after the first respin. The numbers here can climb much higher than the standard yellow values, which is why pink scatters are the ones you tend to watch a bit more carefully.

There is a nice bit of tension to this modifier because those symbols arrive before showing their final worth. Sometimes that reveal is modest. Sometimes it is rather less modest.

Green Scatter and Extra Modifier

Green scatters are linked to the Extra modifier. This one can randomly add extra money symbols during the respin round, which is useful because the entire feature depends on keeping fresh symbols landing and resetting the counter.

It is the least flashy of the three, but probably the easiest to appreciate in practice. More symbols mean more resets, more filled positions, and a better chance of stretching the round into something worthwhile.

Ghost Respin Feature

The respin round is the centre of the game. It starts when enough scatters build up, or when four or more scatters land on the same base spin. You begin on a 5x4 grid with three respins, and only blanks plus money symbols can land.

Every new money symbol resets the counter and stays in place. As the screen fills, extra rows unlock at set milestones, taking the layout all the way up to 5x8. At the end, the values of every visible money symbol are added together and paid. It is a familiar structure, but the expanding grid gives it a bit more shape than the usual static version found around online casinos

Spin Mechanics

Great Ghosts! uses a 5x4 reel setup with 50 paylines. Wins pay from left to right, starting on the first reel, and you need at least three matching symbols to get paid. On the surface, it is a very standard line based slot.

The real hook is how little the base game tries to distract from the main event. You are mostly waiting for scatters to collect and build toward the respin round. That makes the spin rhythm feel dry at times, but also very focused. Pragmatic Play has clearly decided the mansion is just the waiting room and the respins are where the actual séance begins.

Similar Slots

If you want something with a similar feel, these are the obvious places to look:

  • Wolf Gold: Another slot obsessed with its feature set where the main action sits in a money-style bonus round.
  • The Dog House - Muttley Crew: If you like the idea of a base game doing very little while the bonus carries most of the weight.
  • Big Bass Splash: For a lighter themed game that still leans heavily on building toward a stronger feature phase.

BetVictor’s Opinion

Great Ghosts! turned out better than we first expected. The theme is gentle to the point of being a little daft, and the base game can be thin enough to hear the floorboards creak, but the respin feature has real substance once the modifiers start lining up. That 40,000x top end is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, of course, though the structure around it is solid enough too.

We would not call this one a masterpiece of haunted design, and there are stretches where it feels like it is simply waiting for permission to become interesting. Still, once the bonus round starts expanding the grid and stacking values, the whole thing suddenly makes a lot more sense. It is a ghost slot with a surprisingly firm right hook, which is not the worst thing to discover in an old mansion.

Frequently Asked Questions
