The Champions League has a habit of changing shape as the season goes along. September brings a crowded table and eight different opponents. By spring, the same competition is all about two-legged ties, away trips and the occasional penalty shoot-out.

Some nights call for a view on the next 90 minutes. Others invite a much longer prediction about who will still be around in June. This season’s first league-phase matches fall on 8 September. It looks like a league table, all 36 names stacked together, but the fixture list is deliberately incomplete. Each club faces eight different opponents, playing four at home and four away. There is another route if one evening feels too narrow. Open the Champions League outright odds and the longer-term menu can ask for the champions, the two finalists, the leading scorer or even a club’s finishing band in the league table.

Some selections carry each-way terms. When they do, the slip shows the place fraction, number of places and combined cost. Do not assume the terms will be identical across every outright market.

Matches can also move into live football betting after kick-off. A red card, penalty or goal may lead to markets being suspended while the prices are adjusted. Cash Out sometimes appears on eligible bets, but it can disappear and should never be treated as a guaranteed exit.

Paris Saint-Germain arrive with the trophy again. Their Budapest final against Arsenal turned after the interval: Ousmane Dembélé’s penalty cancelled out the opening goal, extra time could not break the 1-1 tie and Paris took the shoot-out 4-3. One European title had become two in the space of 12 months.

Look at the market today and PSG, Arsenal and Barcelona are level at its head. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid sit close behind. That order is only a snapshot. One injury, a difficult draw or a couple of poor league-phase nights can rearrange it without much warning.

This format also makes the middle of the table unusually important. Eighth and ninth might be separated by very little, yet one club receives a place in the last 16 while the other faces two extra games. Look at the remaining opponents and not simply the points already collected. An apparently modest position can improve quickly if the hardest fixtures are out of the way.

The road ends at the Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday 5 June 2027. Madrid last staged the final at this ground in 2019, when Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0.

The final still has the usual markets, although this is one evening when a quick glance at the label is especially risky. A 90-minute bet can finish as a draw. A “to lift the trophy” selection runs through extra time and penalties. Those are separate predictions, even when the same club appears on both.

Real Madrid’s total of 15 still stands on its own. AC Milan follow on seven; Bayern Munich and Liverpool have six apiece. PSG now have two, both won in consecutive seasons.

That second Paris victory needs one old claim on this page corrected. The claim that only Real Madrid have kept hold of this trophy is now out of date. Paris managed it in 2026. Looking further back, several clubs also defended the European Cup before the 1992 rebrand.
