What Is the Six Nations?
You will see the same six names in the draw each year: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. Everybody plays everybody once, which gives us 15 matches and a league table to settle the title. There is no final waiting at the end of it.

How Six Nations Points Work
Four points go into the table for a win, or two apiece when the score is level. There is also a point for scoring four tries, and one available to a losing team that finishes within seven points.
That means a losing afternoon need not be pointless. Score four tries and lose by six, for instance, and you leave with two bonuses. Win with four tries and you take five points, the most available from one match.
A clean sweep earns another three points for the Grand Slam. That extra award keeps a five-win team above a rival collecting bonuses. Where teams otherwise finish level, points difference comes first and tries scored is the next separator.
You may also hear talk of the Triple Crown. England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales can claim it by beating the other three, although results against France and Italy can still leave them short of the championship.

Match Winner
A three-way match result offers the home side, draw or away side. Ordinary match bets are normally settled over 80 minutes plus stoppage time; check the particular market rules before placing yours.
Imagine backing Ireland in a three-way market and watching them draw 24-24. The team selection has lost, because the draw was a separate outcome. With a draw-no-bet market, that same level score would return your stake.
Six Nations Outright Winner
An outright selection follows your team through the whole tournament. One poor result can lengthen the price, but a side with four wins may still take the trophy if results elsewhere help.
France’s title defence is an obvious starting point for the 2027 discussion. Ireland and England are familiar names in that conversation too, while Scotland’s fixtures deserve their own assessment.
Grand Slam and Wooden Spoon
France showed in 2026 that you can lift the trophy without winning every game. That is a championship success, but it would leave a Grand Slam bet on France unsuccessful. For that selection you need all five wins.

Handicap Betting
You can get the match winner right and still lose a handicap bet. Take England -10.5 against Wales: an England win by ten is too small, whereas a margin of 11 or more is enough.
The line matters, as does the number of outcomes. A whole-number handicap can finish exactly level after adjustment. Whether that brings a returned stake or a winning handicap-draw selection depends on the market, so check which version you have opened.
Over or Under Points
Add the two scores together for a total-points bet. If the line is 49.5, a 30-20 result gets an over selection home with 50 points. At 24-20 there are only 44, making under the winning choice.
A wet forecast might catch your attention, although it cannot answer everything about the total. Look at who is playing and who is taking the kicks too. A succession of penalties can keep a scoreboard moving even when neither attack is finding much space.
Try Scorer Betting
First try scorer concerns the player who scores the opening try. Anytime try scorer gives your selection the rest of the match to cross the line, under the rules of that market.
Check the announced side before choosing a player. A winger starting on the bench has a different opportunity from one selected to play from kick-off. Penalty tries and players who do not take the field can also have specific settlement terms.

France retained the championship in 2026, following their 2025 success. Both titles came without a Grand Slam. Wales’ last-day victory over Italy could not lift them out of sixth place in 2026.
