AJ's next fight is a comeback bout, and the opponent is Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga. The date to circle is Saturday 25 July 2026, the place is Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and the bout is scheduled for 12 rounds at heavyweight. They are calling it The Comeback, fitting enough given it is Joshua's first time back in the ring since he stopped Jake Paul inside six rounds last December.
He goes in a heavy favourite, which surprises nobody. Prenga arrives with a perfect-looking 20-1 record and 20 knockouts, but dig into that resume and the picture changes. The wins have all come at regional level, against opponents nowhere near the world top ten, and at 35 the Albanian has somehow never been booked for a full 12-round fight before. Most expect Joshua to deal with him, and to do it before the final bell.
The thing is, this fight matters for reasons that have little to do with Prenga himself. A genuine blockbuster against Tyson Fury, the all-British heavyweight clash fans have spent years waiting on, has finally been signed for the back end of 2026 and is expected to land on Netflix. Joshua simply has to get past Prenga without a slip-up to keep it alive. On paper it looks routine. In practice there is a lot riding on a clean night's work.
