Canadian Federal Election Betting: How to Bet on the Next Prime Minister of Canada

If you’ve been following Canadian politics, you already know the country is in a bit of turmoil. The most recent Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, officially stepped down as the leader of the Liberal Party and as Prime Minister on January 6, 2025. He remains in place as the Prime Minister until the Liberal Party finds its new leader.

Later this year, Canada will have a federal election to vote for the next Prime Minister and ruling party. An interesting way to track who will likely win the election is through the betting market. Bet Victor Canada has up-to-date odds for each political party in Canada and you can place early wagers on who you think will win the next Canadian federal election.

Canadian Federal Election Betting: Who Are the Canadian Political Parties?

Like in many countries, Canada has two primary political parties: the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party. The minor parties in Canada have a bit more influence than in the United States, for example, but truthfully they likely will not have a chance at ever winning an election. So which parties are running for Canadian leadership in this election?

The Conservative Party

As you can probably tell by the posted betting odds, the Conservatives are considered the current favourites to win the next Canadian federal election. Prior to Trudeau, the last Conservative Prime Minister in Canada was Stephen Harper who held the position for nine years and through three different elections.

Pierre Poilievre, who took over as leader of the Conservative Party in 2022, is a strong speaker who has grown in popularity not just because of his natural leadership but also because he appeared much stronger than Trudeau during his political decline. Many have already anointed Poilievre as the next Prime Minister of Canada, as reflected in the Bet Victor betting odds.

The Liberal Party

The posted betting odds for each party should tell you everything you need to know about how most believe the Canadian federal election will shake out. The incumbent Liberal Party is still searching for a leader to replace Trudeau. Current candidates are former central banker Mark Carney and former deputy prime minister Chyrstia Freeland.

It’s not an easy position for the new Liberal Party leader. Not only are they being sent directly into a federal election, but they will also need to navigate the minefield of the new Trump Administration in the United States. Trudeau is already dealing with the potential imposition of trading tariffs and threats to make Canada the 51st state. It’s not surprising that the Liberals have fallen out of favour in Canada and are at +300 odds to remain the party in power.

New Democratic

The market is telling you something when the third-highest chance of winning the election has such long odds. The New Democratic Party (NDP) have never had a Prime Minister in Canada and probably won’t in 2025 either. The leader of the NDP is Jagmeet Singh who is currently based out of Burnaby, British Columbia.

Bloc Quebecois

As the name suggests, the Bloc Quebecois is a political party devoted to Quebec nationality and the province's sovereignty. Again, the odds indicate that the next Prime Minister will not come from the Bloc Quebecois. Like the NDP, the Bloc has never had a Prime Minister and rarely wins ridings outside of Quebec. The current leader of the Bloc Quebecois is Yves-Francois Blanchet, who has been leader since 2019.

Green Party

The Green Party is a Canadian political party that operates on ‘green principles’. These include ecological wisdom, non-violence, social justice, sustainability, and respect for diversity. The party was founded in 1983 and is currently led by its co-leaders Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault.

People’s Party of Canada

This is the newest political party in Canada as it was founded in 2018. The party is conservative by nature with right-wing populist policies. This party has never had a representative elected to parliament. The current leader is Maxime Bernier who also founded the party seven years ago.

Conclusion: Betting on the Canadian Federal Election

Canadian politics do not get the same attention that American politics get, but the current climate is an interesting one. The country is set to get a new Prime Minister this year no matter which political party wins the election. If you ask the betting markets, the next Prime Minister will be the leader of the Conservative Party. The next major market-moving event will come in March when the Liberal Party announces its new leader. The odds could move higher or lower, depending on who is chosen!
