The NBA stands for the National Basketball Association, which is a professional basketball league featuring 30 teams across North America. The league began in 1946 at the Commodore Hotel in New York City, with Maurice Podoloff serving as the first president.

Nowadays, rosters include a maximum of 15 players per team, though only 12 can be active for each game. The NBA controls all rules, player trades, and creates the yearly schedule that includes the Regular Season, Playoffs, and Draft.

The NBA follows a structure that spans nearly nine months each year, giving players a total of 3 off-season months to recover and recoup. Regular Season action begins in October and continues through April, with all 30 teams playing exactly 82 games during this period.

Each team faces opponents from both the Eastern and Western Conferences, building their record for playoff qualification. Games consist of four 12-minute quarters, and teams must attempt a shot within 24 seconds of gaining possession.

Playoff qualification is an important part of the season that occurs when things start to wind down in April. Six teams from each conference earn automatic spots in the postseason tournament, while teams ranked 7th through 10th in both conferences compete in a special Play In Tournament for the final two playoff spots per conference.

Championship glory comes through surviving multiple playoff rounds from April to June. Eastern Conference teams battle through brackets on one side, while Western Conference squads fight on the other. For example, if a player bets on over 234.5 points, it means that at least 235 must be scored in the match in order for the associated potential winnings to be awarded.
