Catfish Hunters by Nolimit City takes a familiar fishing setup and shifts it away from deep-sea clichés, heading instead to the muddy banks of the Mississippi. The focus lands on a group of characters including Stacy, Karen, Granny, Cletus, and Bubba, each tied to different feature effects rather than just decoration.
It sticks with a simple layout, but the mechanics underneath do most of the talking, especially once the Fish system starts building.
The setting keeps things stripped back compared to NoLimit’s usual style. In fact, it looks surprisingly similar to the majority of fishing themed online slots, although admittedly with a grittier edge including a submerged skeleton in the background. Water fills most of the screen, with a thin stretch of land across the top and during bonus rounds, that same water turns gold, adding a small visual change without altering the overall feel.

Wilds appear in multiple forms and substitute for regular symbols. One detail that stands out is that a full screen of wilds doesn’t produce a payout, which feels like a deliberate twist.
At the start of each spin, Electrical Frames land in random positions. When a Fish symbol lands inside one of these frames, it pays its value.
Fish values range from smaller amounts up to much higher ones, and a global multiplier applies to all Fish. Each time a Fish pays, the remaining Fish values double, which can quickly shift the numbers on the grid.
xWays symbols reveal additional symbols instead of landing as a fixed one. They can turn into multiple matching symbols, a wild, or a Fish.
If more than one xWays lands, they all reveal the same result, which can lead to stacked outcomes across the reels.
When an Imposter Wild appears, it transforms into one of five variants tied to the main characters:
Each version shifts the round in a different way, either by boosting values or increasing the number of Fish on the screen.
Bonus rounds are triggered by scatter symbols:
3 scatters activate Dark Water Spins
4 scatters activate Deep Water Spins
5 scatters activate Overcharged Spins
All versions carry over the Fish multiplier from the base game, but it reduces slightly after each spin until it settles at a minimum level. Additional scatters award extra spins.
Each version also comes with upgrades which can increase extra spins, improve xWays outcomes, or add a persistent Electrical Frame.
At the end of a round, an extra spin may be available for a set cost. This keeps the current Electrical Frames and Fish multiplier in place, allowing the next spin to continue from the same setup.
The core loop revolves around building Fish values and landing them inside Electrical Frames. Standard symbol combinations are present, but most of the bigger moments come from how the Fish system develops.
Imposter Wilds and xWays both feed into that system, either by increasing multipliers or by adding more Fish to the grid. The layout stays consistent, but the way each spin plays out can shift depending on how these elements land.
When the now famous Fishin' Frenzy was first released in 2014, who knew it would spark a whole sub-genre of online casino games, but it did, including:
Catfish Hunters feels like a more controlled entry from Nolimit City. The mechanics still carry plenty of weight, especially with the Fish system and Imposter Wilds, but the presentation keeps things relatively simple.
It may be a disappointment for some NoLimit City fans expecting the developer’s usual over-the-top visuals and animations, but at BetVictor we found it a welcome chance to concentrate on how all the studio’s signature features interact, without the distraction of being mooned by Winston Churchill, for example, and we think others will too.
