Area Link Chilli Slot Game Review

Area Link Chilli by AreaVegas brings us a 5 reel, 3 row slot with 20 paylines, hot pepper characters and an Area Link feature built around coloured Chilli symbols. The theme says spice, although the base game looks more like someone opened a chilli sauce label and called it interior design.

Theme & Graphic

Area Link Chilli uses a fiery orange background, dark blue reels and bright food themed symbols. The main Chilli character stands beside the grid with folded arms, looking like he’s about to judge our spice tolerance and probably find it disappointing. Above the reels, coloured Chillies show which Area Link upgrades can become active.

The regular symbols include tacos, salsa, margaritas, nachos, tequila and card ranks from 9 to A. The Wild is represented by a bottle of chilli sauce, which fits the theme better than a standard W slapped onto the reels and sent out unsupervised. Visually, the slot is readable, but fairly static. The colour contrast helps, yet the setting doesn’t do much beyond reminding us that red and orange exist. Among online slots, this is more about feature combinations than atmosphere.

Payout Table

The lower symbols are 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, while the food and drink symbols sit higher on the paytable. The tequila symbol is the strongest regular paying symbol.

Symbol Payout for 3, 4, 5 of a kind
9 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
10 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
J 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
Q 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
K 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
A 0.20, 0.40, 2.00
Taco 0.40, 1.00, 4.00
Salsa Bowl 0.40, 1.00, 4.00
Margarita 0.40, 1.00, 4.00
Nachos 0.40, 1.00, 4.00
Tequila 1.00, 2.00, 10.00

Special Symbols

  • Wild Symbol: The chilli sauce Wild substitutes for all regular paying symbols except Chilli symbols. Wilds are stacked on all reels and appear in the base game only.
  • Coloured Chilli Symbols: Chilli symbols collect to matching Chillies above the reels. They can trigger Area Link and determine which upgrades become active.
  • Chilli Inferno Symbol: Chilli Inferno symbols may trigger a feature that starts Area Link with a random set of Chilli upgrades.

Bonus Features

Area Link Feature

The Area Link feature can trigger when one or more Chilli symbols appear on the reels. Each Chilli collects to the matching colour above the grid, and the combination of collected colours determines which upgrades are active.

The feature begins with 3 respins. All triggering Chilli symbols lock in place, and any additional Chilli that lands resets the counter to 3. Each Chilli awards either a cash prize or one of the available fixed prizes, and all prizes are paid at the end of the feature. The round ends when all positions are filled or the respins run out.

Blue Chilli Upgrade

The Blue Chilli upgrade allows Blue Chillies to appear during the Area Link feature. During every spin, landed Blue Chillies have their prizes increased by a random amount.

This upgrade gives one colour a direct value boost role. It’s simple, but it can matter more when multiple Chillies are landing across the same feature array.

Green Chilli Upgrade

Green Chillies appear during this upgrade and add their values to a random number of Red Chillies. A single Red Chilli can receive the Green Chilli value more than once.

After the Green Chilli feature has finished, a Red Chilli is created in its place. This makes Green Chillies useful for building existing Red Chilli values before they join the rest of the locked symbols.

Yellow Chilli Upgrade

Yellow Chillies award an instant collection of all newly landed credit prizes and fixed prizes. After the Yellow Chilli feature has completed, a Red Chilli is created in its place.

When Yellow appears alongside Purple or Magenta, the collection applies only within its own array. When Yellow appears with Green, the Green Chilli actions happen before Yellow collections. There’s a logic to it, although the game does ask us to treat chilli colours like a small administrative department.

Purple And Magenta Chilli Upgrades

Purple and Magenta upgrades add extra Area Link arrays. If either upgrade is active, a second feature array is awarded. If both Purple and Magenta are active, the feature runs with four arrays in total.

Each array plays independently. The feature ends only after every array has either filled all positions or completed its respins. This is one of the more meaningful upgrade types, since it changes the scale of the feature rather than simply adjusting values.

Orange Chilli Upgrade

The Orange Chilli upgrade applies a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5 during every spin. Red Chilli symbols receive the multiplier once when they first lock into place.

When Orange is combined with Purple or Magenta, the multiplier applies to new Red Chillies across all arrays. When Orange appears with Yellow, the multiplier applies to the Red Chilli created after the Yellow feature. With Green, the multiplier applies before the Green Chilli action takes place.

Chilli Inferno

Chilli Inferno symbols can appear on the reels and may trigger the Chilli Inferno feature. Each Chilli Inferno symbol collects to the Red Chilli above the reels.

When triggered, Chilli Inferno awards an Area Link feature with a random set of Chilli upgrades. This gives the base game another route into the main feature, without relying only on the standard Chilli collection route.

Spin Mechanics

Area Link Chilli uses 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines. Wins form from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. Only the highest win is paid per line.

The regular game is built around card ranks, food symbols and stacked Wilds. Chilli symbols sit outside the usual Wild substitution system and connect to the Area Link feature instead. When Area Link begins, the game changes into a respin feature where Chilli symbols lock in place and reset the respin counter when new ones appear. The real mechanical interest comes from upgrade combinations, especially when Purple or Magenta add more arrays and Orange, Green, Yellow or Blue change how values behave.

Similar Slots

For a nearby set of online casino games, we’d keep one eye on Area Link style mechanics and another on colourful feature driven slots with respin structures.

  • Area Link Wolf: This is the most obvious mechanical cousin, using the same Area Link framework with a different theme and symbol set.
  • Area Link Dragon Ascension: Another close relative from the same feature family, with upgrade driven respins rather than food themed Chilli symbols.
  • Tiki Tiki Boom: This one moves to a tropical beach setting, but the symbol modifiers and respin feature give it a similar “different symbols, different jobs” rhythm.

BetVictor’s Opinion

Area Link Chilli has a clear feature idea, but the theme doesn’t quite bring the heat. The coloured Chilli upgrade system is the main reason to pay attention, especially when several upgrades combine during Area Link. Purple and Magenta are the most noticeable because extra arrays make the feature feel larger, while Orange, Green, Yellow and Blue adjust prize behaviour in different ways.

We like that the rules behind multiple upgrades are clearly defined, even if they read a bit like chilli based tax law. The base game is less convincing. The static background and simple food symbols don’t give the slot much personality between feature moments.
