It’s not often that managers decide to ‘up and leave’ in the middle of the season, but that’s unfortunately the case for Wycombe. Sitting second in League One, the Chairboys have had their former manager, Matt Bloomfield, depart for Luton Town in an effort to help pull them away from the relegation zone in what would be a back-to-back drop for the club. While Wycombe Wanderers have already appointed an interim manager in the form of Sam Grace, the first caretaker or manager to actually secure an opening win, the markets are always abuzz with speculation on the next Wycombe manager odds and who might be given a chance at helping them secure promotion to the Championship.
Next Wycombe Manager Options
At the time of writing, according to the latest BetVictor manager odds, there are five names in the running for the Chairboys. In fifth place and with odds of 8/1, meaning a £10 bet would pay £90, is Andy Whing. The former Banbury United manager and current manager of Solihull Moors, who are in the National League, has averaged a 50% win rate at both clubs and could be tempted by the chance to take on a team in League One, albeit this would be a big task for him to undertake and could be seen as a risky appointment.
In fourth is Des Buckingham. At 5/1 odds, the same £10 wager would return £60. Having managed in both New Zealand and India before going to Oxford United, his latest managerial spell ended in Dec 2024 after a win rate of just 34% but his experience in League One could be seen as an asset here.
Third in the list is Steven Schumacher at 4/1, where £10 bet would pay £50 out. His great managerial performance at Plymouth Argyle was slightly undermined when he went to Stoke City, before being dismissed in September last year after a poor run of form. However, he could be a good appointment having managed in the Championship twice and with Wycombe currently 2nd and vying for promotion.
Next Wycombe Manager Favourites
Lastly, and in joint first place in the running, are Claus Norgaard and Leam Richardson, both at 3/1 odds with a £10 wager returning £40. Norgaard is the current assistant manager of Premier League side Brentford, but has spent most of his career in Denmark managing the U18 and youth sides, whilst Richardson was formerly manager of Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United. While both managers are being touted as hot prospects, Norgaard seems the better fit as he would relish the chance to take the helm himself, whilst Richardson’s previous tenure at Rotherham saw an appalling 8% win rate, winning just 2 of 24 games in charge.
Despite no appointments having been touted as of yet and with Bloomfield’s departure being so recent, a quick managerial signing may not be the case for Wycombe, who will no doubt look to secure another long-term manager like Gareth Ainsworth. As they sit 2nd in the League One table behind Birmingham City, albeit having played 2 more games, fans will be as eagerly focussed on the next Wycombe Wanderers manager appointment, as they will about the League One betting odds, as they look to pip Wrexham to second place and secure victories against Northampton Town and Barnsley at the Adams Park stadium over the coming weeks.
