It’s All Or Nothing For A Number Of Top-Flight Bosses
After a series of crushing defeats in the UEFA Champions League this week, the managerial sack race has once again intensified with a number of head coaches seemingly walking on eggshells. Which will leave bettors curious as to who could face the chop next.
And unsurprisingly, BetVictor’s Manager Specials market is garnering plenty of attention. Mainly owing to Chelsea and Newcastle’s hefty midweek losses to global giants PSG and Barcelona. The Blues were beaten 8-2 on aggregate to the 2025 UCL winners whereas the Magpies where trounced 8-3 by Barca.
Here at BetVictor News, we examine the five leading contenders to face the axe and dissect their chances of receiving their P45.
Who Will Be The Next Premier League Manager To Go?
As it stands, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner heads the betting at 6/4. The Austrian has already announced he is leaving at the end of the season and his fractured relationship with the Eagles hierarchy – and supporters – makes his last two months incredibly uncertain.
On the Pitch, Glasner has steadied the ship in recent weeks after a dire spell over the winter. The 51-year-old is actually favoured alongside Michael Carrick to be in charge of Manchester United on the opening game of the 2026-27 campaign. His current price is 8/1. After his efforts in south London, a crack with a ‘Big Six’ side makes sense.
Despite their convincing 5-1 Champions League aggregate win over Galatasaray in the Ro16 on March 18, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is very much in the firing line at 3/1. Having spent over £450million in the summer, the 2024-25 champions endured a miserable run at the back end of last year with none of their new signings hitting the right notes.
Although the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez have begun to shine, a series of poor defeats in the Premier League means the Reds are jostling just to get into the top four. Which would have been incredibly hard to fathom prior to the start of the current campaign after their stunning title win 12 months previous. Slot is almost on ‘borrowed time.’
Completing the podium spots is Burnley’s Scott Parker. He is an intriguing option owing to the Clarets only two avenues they could explore at this stage of the season. They either accept their fate, drop back down to the EFL Championship and keep Parker on board owing to his excellent promotion record and try and come back for the 2027-28 campaign.
Or, they bin him off now and seek new personnel. Which seems rather pointless but at 3/1, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. The former Fulham boss may also want to seek a new venture. He has been at Turf Moor for two seasons and won’t be short of suitors.
Liam Rosenior And Eddie Howe Betting Odds Slashed
Having replaced Enzo Maresca in January, Liam Rosenior is already feeling the heat at Chelsea. Especially after the last three results against PSG (2) and Newcastle. The Blues boss oversaw a 5-2 and 3-0 defeat to the Parisians in the Champions League Ro16.
Wedged in the middle of those defeats was a lacklustre 1-0 Stamford Bridge loss to the Magpies. Up next, a tough away trip to European-chasing Everton. And with Chelsea’s bad run set to take another firm test, it is something to bear in mind when it comes to Premier League betting on BetVictor’s Everton vs Chelsea betting markets.
Rosenior’s overall record isn’t terrible – 10 wins, two draws and six defeats – but he does appear out of his depth in west London. His price has been cut to 5/1 which offers plenty of food for thought. Expect that price to carry on tumbling if Rosenior leaves Merseyside empty-handed.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe has come back in the firing line. Admittedly, the run of fixtures he has entertained since late February have been somewhat brutal. The 7-2 drubbing in Barcelona was a real eye-opener and many are questioning whether the 48-year-old has taken the Toon Army as far as he can.
His 10/1 price offers bettors plenty of value but a win in the Tyne-Wear derby will certainly get the fans back on side. Having won the League Cup in 2024-25 and securing Champions League football for this term, Howe’s playing squad have been truly tested so it’s highly unlikely will be the next Premier League manager to go.
Howe has also dealt with a number of injuries and a topsy-turvy summer owing to the Alexander Isak transfer saga. The smart money lies elsewhere but he is worth keeping an eye on.
