As the season draws to a close and players begin to prepare for their Euro call-ups or wind down for the summer break, it appears that things are less than settled at the Blues, where a reinvigorated Chelsea, having finally come good under Pochettino, have announced they are parting ways with him by mutual consent. While just a few months back this seemed to be a sure thing, 5 victories on the trot and a resurgence to finish 6th and achieve European football next season, had fans believing in him finally. So what do we know about his departure and what has this done to the next Chelsea manager odds.
According to BetVictor, at the time of writing, while there are several names in the mix to be appointed, including the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Vincent Kompany and Ruben Amorim, there are two clear favourites to land the role. A close second at odds of 2/1, with a £10 bet paying £30, is Kieran McKenna. McKenna is one of the most in-demand names in football, having just overseen an outstanding double promotion for Ipswich Town, taking a mid-table League One team to the Premiership, a return that’s taken some 22 years. While Chelsea would face intense competition to land him, he would seem a smart choice for a team that is still not at their very best. In the lead, however, is ex-Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, at 1/1, where a £10 wager would return just £20 if correct. He had been excelling at Brighton until his recent lacklustre performance saw a streak of bad results, but successful spells at Shakhtar Donetsk and his maiden season at Brighton and Hove Albion FC will more than show his potential. While rumours from one media publication, if they are to be believed, have stated that Brighton have been paid a compensation package already by an ‘unnamed club’, at current, there are no conformations to say it has been Chelsea.

Joint third at 12/1*, with a £10 bet paying £130 if correct, are Ruben Amorim, Michel Sanchez and Gareth Southgate. Ruben is currently managing Sporting CP, and with a huge 69.47% win ratio, it would be a huge coup if he could be convinced. Sanchez has seen Girona promoted and has taken them to second place in La Liga, ahead of Barcelona and Atlético, a position that Chelsea clearly aspire to replicate. Southgate OBE, currently in charge of the England national team, saw them finish top of the qualification table and recorded back to back victories over Italy in over 45 years. Whether he would make the switch remains to be seen, but he, like both the other names, would be a huge victory to sign. In second place is the special one himself, Jose Mourinho, at 10/1*, with a £10 wager returning £110. Having just been sacked by Roma and with his win rate decreasing ever since his stint with Madrid in 2010-13, he would be a difficult appointment should Chelsea look to him as a manager after two previous Chelsea manager runs, but some how that won’t stop the press from buying into the potential of ‘lucky number three.’ In first place is Roberto De Zerbi, with odds of 8/1* and a £10 bet paying out £90, is the current manager of Brighton, 8th in the Premier League table. While he may not be the most prolific of names on the list, he has overseen Brighton to 7th place last season and European football and his previous stint at Shakhtar Donetsk where he left at the top of the UPL were formidable.
While nothing has been confirmed, Chelsea have an incredibly hard run of games over the next two months, including Villa away in the FA Cup, followed by away trips to Palace and City, before the EFL Final against Liverpool, so will need to have faith that their manager can deliver. While the Chelsea next manager odds already feature a swathe of names that would have most teams tantalising at the prospect of securing them, they’re already endured a lot of changes so the next appointment would need to be a permanent fixture to win them over.
