Despite seeing Bayern to the Bundesliga title last year and being 2nd in the table this season, Thomas Tuchel has not done enough to secure his position at the club and has been given the sack, albeit delayed until the end of the season. While onlookers and punters alike might be baffled by this scenario, with Tuchel achieving a 63% win rate to date, big losses against Leverkusen and a defeat in the first leg of their Lazio Champions League tie have seemingly caused enough damage to end his tenure in charge. But with CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen targeting a ‘sporting realignment’ for next season, just where will he turn and who do the next Bayern Munich manager odds suggest might fill his seat.
According to BetVictor, at the time of writing, there are 5 names in the running to take over the position, with a clear front-runner already at the top. Tied in third place are three well-known names, all of whom have trophies in their past cabinets. At 8/1*, meaning a £10 bet would pay £90 if correct, are Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho. Conte was most recently in charge of Tottenham and has seen success with multiple clubs, achieving a win rate of over 50% for the past 14 years. Klopp is stepping down from Liverpool this summer after overseeing an incredible transformation of the club, but it seems unlikely that he would step back into the pressure pot so quickly. Mourinho has been in management for 24 years and achieved some of the biggest accolades that the sport has to offer, but his recent tenures have been a little less impressive, so Bayern fans might be wary of his appointment if it was made. In 2nd place, at 6/1* with a £10 wager returning £70, is the French superstar Zinedine Zidane. His successes as a player and as the manager of Real Madrid were almost innumerate, yet his absence from the game for nearly 3 years might prove it difficult to tie him down again. Finally, in 1st place, is Xabi Alonso, with odds of 2/1* meaning a £10 bet would pay out £30. Currently in charge of Bundesliga front-runners Leverkusen, it would be a huge coup to secure his name and peg their opponents down in their ambitions to land top spot at the end of the season.
With such a strong selection of options on the table, Dreesen should have no trouble picking a new manager who could lead the club to glory, yet it remains to be seen the direction they might look to go in when they’ve had a relatively successful period the last few years anyway, with their 2020 season seeing them land the sextuple – effectively all eligible trophies. While Tuchel will undoubtedly land on his feet after he leaves and still do his best to close the gap on Leverkusen this season, it seems to now be a waiting game for the club and fans, to see who will be given the chance to lead them when he goes. In the meantime, why not have a look at some of the latest Bundesliga odds ahead of this weekend’s fixtures as Bayern take on RB Leipzig and Leverkusen host 17th place Mainz.
