Anthony Joshua weighed 251 lb (113.9 kg) for his most recent fight against Kristian Prenga in July 2026. It was a return to something close to his usual fighting weight after dropping below 245 lb for the Jake Paul bout seven months earlier. With AJ now preparing to face Tyson Fury on 11 December, it’s worth looking at how much he’s weighed over the years and whether those extra pounds could make a difference. You can find the latest markets for their showdown through BetVictor’s boxing odds page.
Joshua has never been particularly small for the heavyweight division, even if Fury makes almost everybody look that way. At 6ft 6in, he’s usually somewhere between 250 and 255 lb, although a look through his previous weigh-ins shows that hasn’t always been the case. He was noticeably lighter for both Oleksandr Usyk fights, put on weight when he returned against Jermaine Franklin and then dropped it again when a contractual restriction came into play against Paul.
How Much Does Anthony Joshua Weigh?
The latest official Anthony Joshua weight is 251 lb, recorded ahead of his fight with Kristian Prenga on 25 July 2026. That’s approximately 113.9 kg, or 17 stone 13 lb.
Prenga actually weighed more than Joshua, coming in at 261.4 lb. AJ was giving away just over 10 lb, which isn’t something we’ve always been used to seeing from him. He still had the advantages in experience and technical ability, though, and those proved far more important than anything the scales showed.
The previous December had been rather different. Joshua was contractually restricted to 245 lb against Jake Paul and weighed 243.4 lb, making him more than seven pounds lighter than he was for Prenga.
It was quite a change for somebody who’d spent most of the previous few years fighting above 250 lb.
Anthony Joshua Weight History: Last 7 Fights
There’s a surprisingly narrow range across most of Joshua’s recent fights. Remove the Jake Paul bout, where a special weight agreement applied, and the other six weigh-ins are all within six pounds of each other.
| Opponent | Fight date | Joshua’s weight |
|---|---|---|
| Kristian Prenga | July 2026 | 251 lb |
| Jake Paul | December 2025 | 243.4 lb |
| Daniel Dubois | September 2024 | 252.5 lb |
| Francis Ngannou | March 2024 | 252.4 lb |
| Otto Wallin | December 2023 | 251 lb |
| Robert Helenius | August 2023 | 250 lb |
| Jermaine Franklin | April 2023 | 255.4 lb |
What I find interesting is how little the number changed between his fights with Francis Ngannou and Daniel Dubois. Joshua was almost exactly the same weight for both, yet they produced completely different nights.
Against Ngannou, AJ looked sharp from the opening bell and finished the former UFC champion with a brutal right hand in the second round. Six months later, Dubois dropped him repeatedly before stopping him in the fifth.
The difference between those two weigh-ins was just 0.1 lb.
That probably tells us more about the importance of preparation and tactics than any comparison between a fighter’s heaviest and lightest appearances.
Anthony Joshua Weight in KG, Stone and Pounds
AJ’s most recent recorded weight converts to the following measurements:
- Anthony Joshua weight in pounds: 251 lb
- Anthony Joshua weight in kg: 113.9 kg
- Anthony Joshua weight in stone: 17 stone 13 lb
- Anthony Joshua height: 6ft 6in (198 cm)
- Anthony Joshua reach: 82 inches (208 cm)
These figures give us a useful reference for Joshua’s current size, although 251 lb is his latest official weigh-in rather than a confirmed day-to-day weight. We won’t know his exact weight for Fury until he steps onto the scales again.
Why Did Anthony Joshua Weigh Less Against Jake Paul?
There was a specific reason Joshua came in lighter for his December 2025 fight against Jake Paul.
Despite the contest taking place at heavyweight, AJ had agreed to a 245 lb maximum weight. It was an unusual condition for a fighter who had weighed more than 250 lb in each of his previous four appearances.
Paul had spent much of his boxing career closer to cruiserweight, so the agreement was intended to reduce what would otherwise have been a substantial size difference.
Joshua eventually weighed 243.4 lb, while Paul was 216.6 lb. Even after losing the extra weight, AJ was still nearly 27 lb heavier.
The fight ended with Joshua knocking Paul out in the sixth round.
I wouldn’t read too much into the weight reduction itself. Joshua was facing a much smaller and considerably less experienced boxer, so the circumstances were completely different from preparing for somebody like Fury, Usyk or Dubois.
Once the contractual restriction disappeared, Joshua returned to 251 lb for his next fight.
What Is Anthony Joshua’s Heaviest Weight?
Joshua’s highest official weigh-in came against Jermaine Franklin in April 2023, when he weighed 255.4 lb, equivalent to around 115.8 kg.
It was his first fight since losing the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, and there was plenty of curiosity about what sort of Joshua we’d see after those two defeats.
He looked physically imposing at the weigh-in, although the fight itself wasn’t especially memorable.
AJ won comfortably enough on points but couldn’t get Franklin out of there, despite being expected to produce a convincing comeback performance. There was still a sense afterwards that he hadn’t quite found the version of himself that had made him such a dangerous heavyweight earlier in his career.
By his next appearance against Robert Helenius, Joshua was back down to 250 lb.
He then stopped Helenius, Otto Wallin and Ngannou in successive fights, all while weighing around 250 to 252 lb.
How Much Will Anthony Joshua Weigh Against Tyson Fury?
I’d be surprised if Joshua arrived much heavier than 255 lb when he meets Tyson Fury on 11 December.
His last several unrestricted weigh-ins suggest that 250 to 255 lb is the range he’s most comfortable with, and I don’t see an obvious reason to change that dramatically for Fury.
Of course, we won’t know what AJ and his team have decided until the official weigh-in. There’s also a big difference between preparing for Fury and preparing for someone who stands in front of you looking to trade punches.
Fury is awkward, tall and capable of making opponents waste an enormous amount of energy trying to close the distance. Joshua needs to be able to work his way into range without spending the whole evening following him around the ring.
Personally, I’d rather see AJ arrive somewhere around the weight he carried against Wallin or Ngannou, when his punches looked sharp and he wasn’t carrying unnecessary bulk.
That doesn’t mean he’d automatically produce the same performance. Fury presents a completely different challenge, particularly when he starts using his size in the clinch.

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Weight Difference
Based on their most recent official weigh-ins, Tyson Fury is 14 lb heavier than Anthony Joshua.
Fury came in at 265 lb for his July fight with Mariusz Wach, compared with AJ’s 251 lb against Prenga.
There’s also a three-inch height difference between them. Fury stands 6ft 9in, while Joshua is 6ft 6in, so it’s easy to see why the Gypsy King has traditionally been considered the bigger man.
But I wouldn’t expect Joshua to spend his entire training camp worrying about those extra 14 pounds.
He’s already faced enormous heavyweights and knows how to generate power without having to match an opponent’s weight. His biggest problems against Fury are more likely to involve distance, timing and the difficulty of pinning down somebody who can move so well for his size. The clinch could be another matter.
Fury has made a career out of leaning on opponents, smothering their work and forcing them to carry his weight. If he can do that consistently, the size difference might become more important as the rounds go by.

Did Anthony Joshua Lose Weight After Fighting Usyk?
Joshua was actually lighter during his two fights with Oleksandr Usyk than he has been for most of his recent appearances.
He weighed around 240 lb for their first meeting in September 2021, before returning at approximately 244.5 lb for the rematch in August 2022. Neither approach worked.
Usyk won both fights on points, using his footwork, angles and remarkable ability to maintain a high pace to frustrate Joshua over 12 rounds.
AJ then moved towards the 250 lb mark following those defeats, although I don’t think that was necessarily a reaction to his weight being too low against Usyk.
He changed trainers, adjusted his approach and eventually began looking more comfortable behind his jab again.
His physical preparation was part of that process, but the tactical changes probably mattered more than adding a few pounds.
Does Anthony Joshua Fight Better at a Lighter Weight?
I wouldn’t say Joshua needs to be lighter to fight at his best.
He weighed around 250 lb for his famous victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, when he recovered from being knocked down to stop the former champion in the 11th round. It remains one of the defining fights of his career.
He was a similar weight against Ngannou, producing one of his most impressive recent knockouts.
Then again, he was only slightly heavier against Dubois and suffered one of the toughest defeats of his career.
That’s boxing. You can arrive in excellent condition and still lose badly if you make mistakes against the wrong opponent.
Joshua’s preferred weight has generally settled around 250 lb for a reason, but I think the more important question ahead of Fury is whether he can impose his own style rather than allowing Fury to dictate how the fight unfolds.
If AJ spends too long waiting for the perfect opening, he could find himself several rounds behind before he’s really got going.
Does Heavyweight Boxing Have a Weight Limit?
There’s no upper weight limit in professional heavyweight boxing.
Under the traditional professional weight-class structure, fighters compete at heavyweight once they’re above 200 lb, although some organisations recognise bridgerweight as an additional division.
That means Joshua can weigh 245 lb, 255 lb or considerably more without having to move divisions.
The restriction against Jake Paul was a special agreement between the fighters, not a standard heavyweight rule.
For Fury, no equivalent limit has been confirmed, leaving both men free to prepare at whatever weight they believe gives them the best chance of winning.
Joshua’s latest official weight remains 251 lb (113.9 kg). We’ll find out whether he stays close to that mark when he weighs in for Tyson Fury in December.
