Arc de Triomphe Results
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe affectionately referred to as the Arc, is a Group 1 flat horse race that takes place at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris annually. The race, which is seen as the most prestigious all-aged horse race in the flat racing, and which therefore makes it a dream for every jockey, trainer, and owner to be declared the Arc de Triomphe winner, is open to all thoroughbreds aged three and over.
The race itself, which, as mentioned above, takes place in France’s capital city of Paris at Longchamp Racecourse, and it is run over a distance of around 1 ½ miles, which works out at 2,400 meters. It’s usually the case that the race will be run annually on the first Sunday in the month of October. There have been some excellent thoroughbreds taking part in the Arc over the years, with Ace Impact, who won the Arc de Triomphe 2023, another shining example of that.
Of all the Group 1 flat races that take place on the calendar, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is currently the fifth richest, with the total purse registering at a stunning €5,000,000. The only Group 1 flat races that are richer than the Arc are The Everest, The Dubai World Cup, The Breeders Cup Classic and The Saudi Cup.
The Arc, like many races, is actually part of a festival known as the Arc Weekend. There are usually in excess of 60,000 people who attend the weekend, with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe itself the showpiece. It’s broadcast live in fifty countries, making it a global spectacle.

Arc de Triomphe racing results and Arc de Triomphe odds ran true in one sense, with the favourite. Ace Impact, ridden by Cristian Demuro for trainer J-C Rouget, winning the race. However, nobody could have predicted that big-priced Westover (32-5) and Onesto (55-1) finishing second and third, respectively.
It proved to be another disappointing finish for Frankie Dettori in what was his final ride in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The Italian was onboard 20-1 shot Free Wind, trained by John & Thady Gosden. Free Wind finished way down the pecking order, managing to scrape a 13th-place finish.
The duo of jockey Ryan Moore and trainer A P O’Brien had expected to go well with their charge Continuous at the Arc. The three-year-old was seen as an outsider and priced at 14-1 as a result. Tipped for a top-three finish, Continuous was ridden home by Moore in fifth but was never close enough to be in contention to challenge the leaders at any point.
What to expect from Arc de Triomphe 2024
After the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2023, attention has already turned to the 2024 Arc. The race itself is already scheduled to take place, with it due to run on October 6, 2024, at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France.
As always, the Arc will be the richest flat race in Europe, and it will be open to all Group 1 thoroughbreds aged three years and over. The race will be run over a distance of twelve furlongs, which equates to 1 ½ miles or 2,400 meters.
It’s the case with all races of the magnitude of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe; horse racing odds for the 2024 renewal were immediately made available following the Arc de Triomphe race results for 2023 being confirmed. But, of course, they’re all subject to change before October 6, 2024.
Ace Impact, ridden by Cristian Demuro for trainer J-C Rouget, started the 2023 race as favourite, and it managed to hold off any competition to win as expected. There’s some talk the defending champion could return with the intention of defending its crown, but at present, that’s still unclear.
If Ace Impact did return, it will undoubtedly come up against the best thoroughbred Group 1 three-year-olds, and this will be taken into consideration. Horses that impress in races such as the Epsom Derby, Irish Oaks, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de Diane will all be entered into the 2024 Arc.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2024 is a long way off, although odds are already available, as they are Cheltenham Festival odds, which comes a lot sooner on the horse racing calendar, albeit it’s not contested on the flat. But it’s just as iconic, nonetheless.
Following the Cheltenham Festival comes the most famous horse race in the world, bar none, with millions having a bet on the Grand National when it takes place at Aintree in April. Odds are also available ante-post for the 2024 Grand National, as are 2000 Guineas odds for the race next May.
What’s interesting about the 2000 Guineas odds is that they feature horses such as City of Troy that could feature in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe 2024. So, it could be worth seeing how the 2000 Guineas plays out ahead of the Arc renewal, which follows several months later.
