NFL Week 9 Picks: Football Predictions and Tips for Betting 

As we head into week 9 of the 2024/25 NFL, there are plenty of high-profile games that mean a lot to both teams involved. One standout example of this is the match between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions, which could have huge implications surrounding which team will finish at the top of the NFC North.

Game 1: Los Angeles Chargers @ Cleveland Browns

The first game that we will be looking at is the one between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cleveland Browns, both of whom have had relatively underwhelming seasons thus far. Arguably, the Browns have had the worst of it, scoring under 20 points in all of their games this season apart from their most recent match-up against the Baltimore Ravens, in which they walked away with a 29-24 victory.   

Their standout player from this encounter was Jameis Winston, who is looking to build on this form when they face off against the Chargers. With that being said, the Ravens aren’t exactly resilient at the back this season, currently sitting at the very bottom of all 32 teams in terms of passing defense.   

When compared to the Ravens, the Chargers are a completely different beast and although the team from Los Angeles have been unpredictable this season, they have the players, experience, and fundamentals to pick up a relatively comfortable victory against the Cleveland Browns.   

Game 2: Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers

Next up is the match between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions, which will kick off inside the Lambeau Field stadium on Sunday 3rd November. The big news from this game is the touch-and-go nature of Jordan Love’s injury, as the superstar may be forced to miss the game due to a groin injury, with a big decision by Matt LaFleur being needed on game day. Keep in mind, however, that Malik Willis, Love’s replacement, isn’t exactly a slouch either, currently sitting at the top of all quarterbacks in terms of passing rate.  

As for the Detroit Lions, their main ally so far this season has been offense. They sit at the number 1 team in the NFL right now in terms of points per game (33.4), while the Green Bay Packers can be found in the sixth spot on the same table, averaging 27 points per game. Detroit also have significantly fewer turnovers than the Packers (0.7 vs 1.5), indicating that they are more than capable of outplaying the team from Green Bay on all areas of the pitch.  

We think this match will likely be a close one that is filled with action across all areas of the pitch. Due to this, we have opted for the Detroit Lions Money Line bet, as we believe the winning margin will be a tough one to predict. Both teams will be going all-out in a game that is a crucial part of their respective success in the 2024/25 season, however, the Detroit Lions look slightly better across the board.  

Game 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Kansas City Chiefs

• Our Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 

According to current NFL odds, the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorites to be victorious in the Super Bowl at the end of the 2024/25 season, with their recent run of form proving why they have been so heavily backed. They have won all seven of their games so far, standing alone at the top of the AFC West with clear breathing room between themselves and the Denver Broncos, who have even played more games (8 this season).  

One of the key factors in their success this season has been the immaculate defense and strategic decision-making of running back Kareem Hunt and quarterback Patrick Holmes. This has contributed to them winning by larger margins in their previous games, winning by at least 5 in their last five games, with four of these victories being by more than 7 points. Of course, stars such as Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy have also been delivering as usual, meaning that the Chiefs are essentially playing at full strength right now.  

Adversely, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been having a bit of a rough time so far in 2024/25, despite keeping their wins and losses level at 4 apiece. The Bucs will be forced to play without Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, which weakens a team that, in theory, the Kansas City Chiefs would have no trouble demolishing anyway.  

We’ve picked the Kansas City Chiefs -6.5 in this particular encounter, with their red-hot offense encountering a team that has conceded over 30 points per game, on average, throughout this season already. Other spreads could certainly be worth consideration here too, however, regardless of this, it should certainly be a barn-burner of a match to spectate, and one you simply cannot miss!
