Jannik Sinner Injury: How Long Will The World Number One Be Out For?

The latest Jannik Sinner injury news has confirmed the 2026 Wimbledon champion will be out for the remainder of the season owing to inflammation of his right knee.

Sinner has not played since he beat Alexander Zverev in the All England Club final in July. The Italian star missed the chance to reclaim his US Open title in September which he previously landed in 2024. However, the world number one has enjoyed a fine calendar year and will now concentrate on his recovery.

Jannik Sinner Injury

On October 6, Sunshine Double victor Jannik Sinner confirmed he will not return to action until 2027. The 25-year-old superstar published a video message via Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) explaining that his season has come to a halt.

“Hello everyone, I would like to give you a little update.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over.

“The last couple of years, especially the end ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different.

“But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career.

“I will do everything possible to get back 100%. I thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on [the] court again.”

As it stands, Sinner’s most realistic return date will be in January next year ahead of the 2027 Australian Open. By that point, it’s extremely likely that he’ll lose his world number one status to Alexander Zverev.

What Majors Has Jannik Sinner Won?

Although Jannik Sinner is ruled out for the rest of the year, the 2027 Australian Open odds list the Italian ace as the tournament favourite. Sinner’s very first major actually came in the Melbourne extravaganza back in 2024. He was also victorious in the 2025 edition.

Sinner has also tasted victory at Wimbledon on two occasions (2025, 2026) and also has a US Open title in 2024. Having fallen victim to a French Open upset in May this year, a success at Roland-Garros is the only major that has so far eluded Sinner.

Jannik Sinner’s major wins

  • Australian Open (2) – 2024, 2025
  • French Open – (0)
  • Wimbledon – (2) – 2025, 2026
  • US Open (1) – 2024

Not only does Sinner already have five Grand Slam victories under his belt, he landed five straight Masters 1000 successes between March and July earlier this year. No player had ever achieved this series feat.
