Five New French Open Favourites Emerge After Jannik Sinner Crashes Out Of Roland-Garros

After Jannik Sinner’s surprising loss in the second round on May 28, who are the new French Open favourites for the Men’s singles?

The World No.1 fell victim to what is already widely regarded as one of the biggest French Open upsets of all-time when he lost in five sets to Francisco Cerundolo. Sinner was two sets up and leading 5-1 in the third before he appeared to suffer with heat cramps and exhaustion.

Cerundolo was certainly not in a sympathetic mood and took full advantage of Sinner’s hindrances to advance to R3. And with Carlos Alcaraz absent owing to injury, who are the most likely players to go all the way at Roland-Garros?

French Open Favourites: Maiden Major For Zverev Or Will Djokovic Create More History?

After Jannik Sinner’s exit blew the Men’s draw wide open, the new French Open favourite is Alexander Zverev. The World No.3 is yet to win a major – will he have a better chance? That is up for debate but he did come mightily close at the US Open in 2020; losing out to Dominic Thiem in the final having been two sets to the good.

Zverev also finished as a runner-up at the 2024 French Open as well as the Australian Open a year later. The 29-year-old will face Quentin Halys in the third round and is currently 15/8 to break his duck and go all the way.

Elsewhere, someone who is no stranger to lifting majors in Novak Djokovic. The Serbian superstar has won 24 in total and one more will mean he surpasses Margaret Court for the most victories by a man or woman of all-time.

Djokovic’s last major came at the 2023 US Open and he will be gunning to create history. And with a price of 4/1, he offers bettors a decent level of value. He is next up in action against Joao Fonseca in the third round.

Casper Ruud, Rafael Jodar And Francisco Cerundolo In French Open Contention

Similar to Alexander Zverev, Norwegian ace Casper Ruud is still chasing a first major victory. In 2022 and 2023, Ruud was a losing finalist at Roland-Garros. He also lost in the US Open showdown four years ago and is available at 7/1.

New kid on the block Rafael Jodar is aiming to defy the latest French Open odds. The 19-year-old Spaniard is often regarded as the new Rafael Nadal and after all, he didn’t do too bad on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, did he? Jodar is on-site at 10/1.

When it comes to French Open betting in what has been a tournament of upsets, Jannik Sinner’s conqueror Francisco Cerundolo is definitely worth considering. The Argentine has dropped as low as 12/1 and naturally, he’ll be brimming with confidence after his seismic Sinner stunner and is easily one of the new and surprising French Open favourites.
