It’s been a busy period of sackings and another Championship side appears to have parted ways with their manager just this weekend. Stoke City, who’s last win was back in October against Middlesborough, have endured a disastrous run of form under Alex Neil and now sit just 2 points above the relegation zone. Despite securing a mammoth 6-1 win in the EFL Cup against Rotherham, just a few months ago, it seems the time is up for Neil, meaning Stoke City will be on the hunt for a sixth manager in a six year space, this time, surely, hoping for a longer-lasting figurehead.
Perhaps it is ironic that the man who replaced Neil at Sunderland, Tony Mowbray, was sacked by Sunderland just the other day and is now short-listed for the Stoke job now to replace Alex again, but whatever the case, the next Stoke City manager odds are certainly heating up with two main names lighting up the list.
At longer odds of 12/1* and 10/1,* sit Michael Beale (former Ranger manager) and Steven Schumacher (current Plymouth Argyle manager) respectively, offering a £130 and £110 return on a £10 bet, whilst Graham Potter, the former Chelsea manager who was released in April is at 8/1*, meaning a £10 wager would pay out £90. In second place at just 2/1*, is Tony Mowbray, where a £10 bet would return £30. Like we said above, Mowbray replaced Neil at Sunderland, but was just recently sacked despite guiding them to promotion and sitting 9th in the table. But favourite for the role, with odds of just 1/2*, meaning a £10 wager would pay £15, is the former Birmingham City manager, John Eustace. Having ruled himself out of the running for the vacant Swansea manager role, his experience in the Championship could be a great asset for the Potters and provide much-needed stability to a role that seems to be back on the market all too frequently.
With upcoming games against Swansea tomorrow and West Brom on the weekend, a fast appointment would be invaluable at ensuring Paul Gallagher, the appointed caretaker manager, and the board themselves, get the support of the fans behind them once again. After their most recent loss against bottom-side, Sheffield Wednesday, a booing crowd has become all too familiar, something that the team will be hoping to avoid tomorrow night.
