With the latest Man United transfer news linking a whole host of stars to Old Trafford, BetVictor News has taken a closer look at five left-backs the Red Devils could potentially sign this summer.
Luke Shaw enjoyed a formidable season in 2025-26 whereby he started all 38 Premier League games. The England full-back helped United to a third spot finish and with that, a return to the Champions League.
However, Michael Carrick is understood to be keeping his options open. Shaw is likely to be the main No. 3 once again in 2026-27 but owing to his injury problems, Carrick will likely want to add strength in depth with a long campaign ahead.
Man United Transfer News: Five Left-Backs To Consider
Lewis Hall
After a sterling campaign at St James’ Park last term, Newcastle star Lewis Hall is reportedly being monitored by Man United. Hoping to defy Premier League odds and challenge for the title this in 2026-27, Hall would make a fine addition at Old Trafford.
The buccaneering full-back shares many of the same attributes as Luke Shaw and can be considered as a long-term replacement for the 31-year-old. However, the Magpies will fight hard to keep Hall and he would likely cost close to £90million.
Antonee Robinson
Another name under consideration is Fulham’s Antonee Robinson. The 28-year-old is very much in his prime and has earned rave reviews during his time at Craven Cottage. A regular for the USMNT side, Robinson would be a much cheaper option than Lewis Hall.
The Milton Keynes-born defender still has two years on his contract but it’s understood Man United could lure him to Old Trafford on the summer budget they have available. During the 2024-25 season, Robinson registered ten Premier League assists, the most of any defender that campaign.
Micky van de Ven
Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven has been on Man United’s shortlist for the last two seasons. His raw pace and elite acceleration perfectly compliments the Red Devils attacking style. Not only that, the Dutchman can also operate at centre-back which makes his versatility extremely favourable.
United fans will most likely remember Van de Ven for his goal line clearance in the 2024-25 Europa League final. Still only 25, the Spurs star still has his best years ahead of him. With that said, he won’t come cheap. Especially as the Lilywhites won’t want to sell to a direct league rival.
Archie Brown
A name that Man United supporters may not be too familiar with is Archie Brown. The Fenerbahce star has come on leaps and bounds over the past two seasons and he considers his idol to be former England star Ashley Cole.
Brown – similar to Micky Van de Ven – offers versatility and can play in almost any defensive or attacking position down the left. The 24-year-old would likely prove a fine addition at Old Trafford and wouldn’t cost a huge fee to acquire.
Jorrel Hato
Although Jorrel Hato was expected to fill the void left by Marc Cucurella, Chelsea have reportedly offered Man United the Dutch defender. Primarily a centre-back, Hato is able to operate on the left side of defence.
It’s understood the 20-year-old ace wants Champions League football. Something of which the Blues are unable to offer this term. Hato cost the west Londoners approximately £35m from Ajax in August 2025.
