Super League Past Winners & History
The Super League Grand Final is a rugby league game that is the decider when it comes to being declared Super League champions for that year. The two teams who have made it through the Super League Play-Off Series will battle it out at Old Trafford in Manchester, with the winner walking away with the Super League Trophy. The best player on the day will also be honoured by being the recipient of the iconic Harry Sunderland Trophy.
The team that wins the Super League Grand Final isn’t finished there, though. From there, they will go on and play the National Rugby League, or NRL, winners in the World Club Challenge. The World Club Challenge champions are then deemed the best rugby league team on the planet.
Since the Super League brought in the grand final format in 1998, with the two years before, 1996 and 1997, being decided by league position, there have been only four different winners – St. Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls. St. Helens remain the most successful team, with nine titles to their name.
Rugby League odds always have St. Helens there or thereabouts because of their history as in the Super League. But it’s Wigan Warriors who are the reigning champions, and according to Super League Grand Final odds, they will be the team to beat next time round.
