Premier League Darts Predictions & Preview: Night 1

Thursday 6th February sees the first night of the 2025 Premier League of Darts, with plenty of exciting players and storylines being prevalent across the event. Night one takes place in The SSE Arena in Belfast, with 15 other venues around the country ready to host a night each before the playoffs take place at the O2 in London.

Premier League Darts Night 1 Matches

Chris Dobey will face off against Gerwyn Price in a highly anticipated showdown, while Stephen Bunting takes on Rob Cross in what promises to be an exciting clash between two skilled players. Luke Littler will battle it out with Michael Van Gerwen while Nathan Aspinall goes head-to-head with Luke Humphries in two tantalising matches.

Match 1: Chris Dobey vs. Gerwyn Price

Chris Dobey faces Gerwyn Price on his return to the Premier League of Darts, after not being a part of the event in the 2024 iteration. Dobey will have a huge chip on his shoulder and will be looking to prove that he belongs in one of Darts’ main events.

He showed that he was a strong contender in the 2025 World Championships, making it to the Semi Final before being dismantled by Michael van Gerwen 6-1. Chris will now set his sights on doing one better in the Premier League.

Gerwyn Price, currently standing 10th in the world rankings, enters this match with a pressing need to improve his game. His performance in 2024 was all over the place, lacking the consistency that treated him so well throughout 2023.

Both players will be looking to regain the form which has somewhat abandoned them over the past couple of years. A win for each player could give them some much-needed confidence and see them press on during the 2025 darting season!

Match 2: Stephen Bunting vs. Rob Cross

After the face-off between Chris Dobey and Gerwyn Price, all eyes turn to another thrilling match of the night: Stephen Bunting vs. Rob Cross. Stephen Bunting makes a notable return to the Premier League, marking his first appearance since 2015.

His comeback is powered by an outstanding year, highlighted by a victory at the Masters tournament.

He takes on multiple-time champion Van Gerwen, known for his exceptional skill, experience and consistency at the very top of the sport.

Littler will be expected to win this one, just like he did earlier in the year to secure the World Championship; however, you can never really count Michael van Gerwen out. This pairing promises a thrilling contest filled with high scores and accurate finishing, with strong potential to be the match of the evening!

Match 4: Nathan Aspinall vs. Luke Humphries

Many darts fans from around the world will be keeping a close eye on Nathan Aspinall in this encounter, due to his struggles with dartitis, a mental condition that can make it challenging for players to release their darts at the correct time. Aspinall had an incredibly tough 2024 with ups and downs along the way. However, he will be pleased with his World Championships performance, where he was eliminated by eventual winner Luke Littler in the Quarter Finals.

Humphries, on the other hand, is coming off a strong performance as last year’s Premier League runner-up, despite elimination in the round of 16 of the World Championships in late 2024.
