With the Premier League on hiatus for the FA Cup 3rd round, this weekend will see a number of big matches as Tottenham take on Burnley, Manchester United travel to Wigan, defending Champions Manchester City host Huddersfield, and, arguably the most tantalising of them all, Arsenal battle current league leaders Liverpool. But before we take a look at the FA Cup betting odds and who the bookies are backing, let’s take a peek at the big games on offer and how they might pan out.
Tottenham vs Burnley
While Spurs have regained their earlier season form with 4/5 wins from their most recent games, including a recent win against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve, Burnley will be trying to overturn their most recent back-to-back defeats against Villa and Liverpool. But despite Kompany’s recent run of bad luck, an exhaustive Tottenham absentee list could perhaps give them an edge in the game. Ten missing first-team players including Son, Sarr and Bissouma, the only positive is that van de Ven is back training again. Taking a look at the Tottenham vs Burnley odds, at the time of writing, Spurs are clear favourites at 4/11 with a £10 bet paying £13.64, while the Clarets are at 6/1 to win, meaning a £10 wager would return £70.
BetVictor Prediction: Even with a depleted side, Ange Postecoglou are clear favourites and this should be a comfortable victory for them against a struggling Burnley side.
Manchester United vs Wigan
Long-suffering United fans might enjoy a small respite this time, as they travel to League One side Wigan, with even Wigan buoyed by the DW Stadium selling out for the first time since their relegation from the Premier League in 2013. With Wigan coming off a draw against Barnsley and a win against Carlisle, United will be looking to overturn their 1 win in 6 games by securing a victory on Monday night. Goalkeeper Onana is apparently available to play in the fixture, but that hasn’t stopped Wigan manager Maloney in backing his side to knock United back and inflict yet another crushing defeat to them. Looking at the Manchester United vs Wigan odds, Wigan are definitely a long-shot at 11/1, with a £10 bet returning £120, while United are just 1/5, meaning a £10 wager would payout just £12.
BetVictor Prediction: United have been anything but convincing this season, with just 2 wins in 9 games, but taking on a League One side shouldn’t prove too difficult for them. Ten Hag is expected to walk away the victor from this one.
Manchester City vs Huddersfield
City have 4 wins on the trot with their most recent against Sheffield United on the 30th December, and will be looking to make it 5 in a row. Huddersfield have just one win in six, having lost to Leicester and Middlesbrough in their last few games. Whilst superstar Haaland and Rodri might not be available for selection here, it would take an almighty upset for Championship strugglers Huddersfield Town to overturn them at the Etihad stadium, something that the BetVictor Manchester City vs Huddersfield odds are clearly in agreement with. At the time of writing, Manchester City are at 1/28 to win, with a £10 bet paying only £10.36, whilst the Terriers are at an incredible 28/1, where the same £10 wager would payout £290.
BetVictor Prediction: Even with Haaland out, top scorer Michal Helik’s 7 goals falls shy of Álvarez’s 12 and Foden’s 9 tally, not to mention Huddersfield will be dealing with the deafening cry of tens of thousands of City supporters. We expect this to be a walk in the park for Guardiola and his team.
Arsenal vs Liverpool
The biggest battle of the FA Cup 3rd round for sure, title contenders Arsenal take on table-topping Liverpool in a showdown of two of the biggest Premier League teams this season. While Timber is out for Arteta and Partey is still sidelined, Klopp will have to face the Gunners without both Salah and Endo, meaning both sides may make adjustments to their normal starting line-ups. A quick look at their recent games show the Reds have fared better with back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Burnley, while Arsenal will be trying to overcome their recent defeats to both Fulham and West Ham. But just what do the bookies make of this mammoth fixture, as we take a look at the Arsenal vs Liverpool odds. At the time of writing, despite their recent losses, the home side have the advantage with odds of 19/20, meaning a £10 wager would return £19.50. The visitors are further afield at 12/5, with the same £10 bet paying £34 if successful.
BetVictor Prediction: A much harder call with both teams having an outstanding season so far, this could be a close game and reminiscent of their 1-1 draw on the 23rd December. Arsenal will be eager to get their season back on track and perhaps the Emirates home advantage could help them achieve this here. Arsenal to win by a goal if not another draw as both teams look to stay in the competition.
