Ascot Champions Day Betting Odds
This 21st October, some of the greatest horses from around the world will meet at the Qipco British Champions Day, where the biggest flat season stars are saluted and, perhaps to make this year even more special, Frankie Dettori enters his final races before moving to the US having gone back on his retirement plans. But just what is Ascot Champions Day and how can punters, choosing to do so, get stuck into some Ascot Betting action?
The richest race day in the British calendar, having been founded in 2011, 6 different races are run of varying different lengths to determine the best in each of their categories, with the main event boasting the largest prize pot for a mile and a quarter race in all of Europe.
This year, the pot will exceed £1m for the Champions Stake, taking place at 3:45pm after both the Long Distance Cup, Fillies’ and Mares Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The final race of the day, will take place at 4:25pm and is the Balmoral Handicap Stakes, which also offers a prize pot of £200,000 this year, further cementing the Ascot Champions Day 2023 as the most tantalising to date.
Frankie Dettori, up there with the likes of Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy in regards to his spectacular performances, will likely be the centrepiece of the day, as guests flock to celebrate his British racing career coming to an end and watch him try to take another Group 1 triumph, before riding Inspiral in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and then King of Steel in the Champions Stakes later on. Despite still maintaining that this is his last race on the British circuits, there is still speculation – or even wishful thinking – that Dettori will once again regale the British public next year at Royal Ascot, but whatever the case, this Saturday could be his most applauded yet if he wins the Champions Stake yet again.
