Welcome back to our EFL Championship predictions for gameweek 44 here at BetVictor News. With another thrilling campaign coming to its conclusion, there are vital points up for grabs affecting both ends of the table on April 21.
Championship betting is reaching its most pivotal moments of the season with Coventry on the brink of the title and the race for second spot heating up – as well as play-off berths up for grabs. Meanwhile, teams at the bottom end of the standings are quickly running out of time to preserve their second tier status.
EFL Championship Predictions
Coventry vs Portsmouth (7:45pm kick-off)
After their promotion was confirmed at Blackburn, BetVictor’s Harry Redknapp gave Coventry a much deserved shout out in his PL Team of the Week for matchday 33. Harry also praised former club Portsmouth for their survival. So it’s fitting the pair meet at the CBS Arena on April 21.
As expected, the Coventry vs Portsmouth odds strongly favour the Sky Blues. After all, a win will mathematically guarantee the EFL Championship title. And as brilliant as Pompey have been since their 6-1 mauling at QPR, we fully expect Frank Lampard’s side to deliver the title in style in front of their own fans.
Prediction: Coventry 3-1 Portsmouth
Leicester vs Hull (7:45pm kick-off)
In some ways, this is arguably the most vital game being contested on gameweek 44. Ten years on after their iconic and quite frankly, unbelievable Premier League success, Leicester are on the cusp of dropping down to the third tier.
Their need for a win against Hull is monumental. As for the Tigers, their Championship promotion odds stand at 14/1 with a play-off position theirs to squander. We fancy another bad day at the office for the Foxes which will push them closer to the trap door.
Prediction: Leicester 1-2 Hull
Norwich vs Derby (7:45pm kick-off)
Norwich have enjoyed a fantastic 2026 which has seen them go from relegation contenders to almost play-off contenders. Which makes Norwich vs Derby betting somewhat intriguing considering the Rams have a realistic chance of making the top six.
The Canaries go into the match as favourites but with John Eustace at the helm, Derby will believe a point is possible. Which would just about keep their promotion hopes alive and we do fancy a score draw at Carrow Road.
Prediction: Norwich 1-1 Derby
Oxford vs Wrexham (7:45pm kick-off)
Although the Oxford vs Wrexham odds favour an away win, the U’s are fighting to preserve their second tier status. They defied the Championship odds last year by staying above the demotion line but their luck appears like it may run out this term.
Especially as the Red Dragons are gunning for their fourth successive promotion. Ryan Reynolds’ Hollywood script of achieving a Premier League spot isn’t far from completion and our EFL Championship predictions for tonight can’t see past a win for the Welsh side.
Prediction: Oxford 1-3 Wrexham
QPR vs Swansea (7:45pm kick-off)
Two sides looked in the middle of the table with very little to play for. This is the definition of a dead rubber. QPR lost their first game in six at Millwall last time out whereas Swansea were beaten at home by Southampton.
The QPR vs Swansea betting markets do favour the Super Hoops to grab a win and cement their place in the top-half. The Swans do have the league’s top scorer Zan Vipotnik to rely upon so we will sit on the fence and call a draw.
Prediction: QPR 2-2 Swansea
Southampton vs Bristol City (7:45pm kick-off)
Southampton are riding the crest of a wave and it’s difficult to see Roy Hodgson’s Bristol City crashing the party. The Saints are unbeaten in their last 19 fixtures across all competitions. Their Championship promotion odds have been slashed to 4/5 after their excellent run.
With the above in mind, it looks likely that another routine win is on the cards and that is reflected by the Saints 2/5 odds on BetVictor. Tonda Eckert’s men are looking for their ninth victory in a row across all competitions and we firmly believe they’ll achieve it.
Prediction: Southampton 2-0 Bristol City
Stoke vs Millwall (7:45pm kick-off)
Having started 2025-26 brightly, Stoke’s season quickly became lethargic and has pettered into another underwhelming campaign. With very little to play for, they’ll be doing their utmost to thwart Millwall in their quest for Championship promotion.
Oue EFL Championship predictions may have seemed safe so far, but we are going to opt for a surprise Potters win. The Lions looked sharp against QPR last time out but fancy an upset in Staffordshire this evening.
Prediction: Stoke 2-1 Millwall
West Brom vs Watford (7:45pm kick-off)
West Brom have really turned a corner under James Morrison and the Baggies look as though they will preserve their Championship status. As for Watford, it’s been another bang-average campaign with a mid-table finish almost assured.
The West Brom vs Watford odds imply a home victory is on the cards. And that is the outcome we are predicting at the Hawthorns to complete our round of EFL Championship predictions for all eight matches taking part on April 21.
