Harry Redknapp’s PL Team Of The Week: Forest, Man City, Man Utd And Liverpool Stars Feature

Bernd Leno produced a stellar performance for Fulham with that crucial 90th minute stop. That was an incredible reflex save at close-range preventing a late Brentford winner. It’s a save of the season contender for me. Fulham failed to record a single shot on target, so their goalie was the key factor in securing them a point.

Ayden Heaven is the bargain of the century if you ask me! A mere £1 million and this 19-year-old whipper-snapper goes and delivers a standout, mature defensive performance. He was the calmest player on the pitch in a high-stakes away game. He hasn’t played since Amorim left Man Utd and this kid has now laid down a marker to Michael Carrick.

Bournemouth grabbed three valuable points away from home thanks to Adrien Truffert scoring a dramatic late winner, his first goal for the club and what a time to go and hit the back of the net! He properly swept it home in style continuing a remarkable 13-game unbeaten streak for the Cherries boosting their European qualification hopes.

This was a weekend of late drama, and nothing could be more last chance saloon than a goal in the 100th minute in a Merseyside derby!  Virgil van Dijk has not looked his best recently, but that thumping header proves he is still a key cornerstone for Liverpool. It’s almost six years since that infamous Jordan Pickford scissor challenge and this looked like an extra-special goal for the big man.

James Justin delivered a standout, dare I say, heroic performance for Leeds against Wolves. Playing as a centre-back, he was instrumental in both maintaining a clean sheet and securing the win. We all love a stunning acrobatic bicycle kick, and this boy was the star of the show for me. Strong defensive performance, key diving headers, speed, awareness, it was simply a virtuoso display.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Bruno Fernandes? The Man Utd captain delivered a Man of the Match performance yet again, what would this club do without him? He’s now produced eighteen assists so far this season and I can see him breaking all those records. He’s the skipper that others should look to, intelligence, communication, defensive consistency and relentless pressing throughout the match. Brilliant role-model.

I was expecting Morgan Gibbs-White to be a tad sluggish after playing late on Thursday night, but the lad goes and delivers a masterclass performance on Sunday scoring his first career hat-trick. He was the driving force behind Forest’s second-half surge. That back post volley was ferocious, and his third goal can only be described as majestic. I’ve run out of superlatives for the lad and hope Thomas Tuchel feels the same!

I know the game ended in heartbreak for Spurs but Xavi Simons provided a real glimmer of hope for the struggling side. He delivered a standout individual performance. That was one classy chip cross that found Pedro Porro for the first goal. Then the way he turned two defenders and curled a sumptuous strike into the top corner off the post had Tottenham fans reeling. De Zerbi will be leaning on this lad from here on in.

It’s now four goals in five games for Ollie Watkins who is hitting form just at the right time. Aston Villa need to keep their European hopes alive and they’ve also got their sights firmly set on the Europa League final. Watkins on fire and delivering star performances like he did against Sunderland is just what the doctor ordered for Unai Emery! He was the central figure in Villa’s attack and showed real class.

They don’t call this lad Cheeky Cherki for nothing! Dare I say it but even the Arsenal fans appreciated that sublime first goal. Rayan Cherki produced a masterclass performance for Man City weaving through the Gunners defence with a solo effort, magical stuff. This boy provides a dribbling masterclass with a pass accuracy second to none he is central to City’s creative play. A joy to watch.

We all love a fairytale let’s face it and Mo Salah scoring against Everton in his final Merseyside derby is the stuff that dreams are made of even for the neutrals. I was so pleased to see the Egyptian legend on the starting line-up for this big clash the Premier League is really going to miss him. It seemed like fate that Salah would leave his mark on the first derby at Everton’s new home, and his last for Liverpool.

Manager – I have to say a big well done to Frank Lampard getting Coventry back into the Premier League and also a shout out to my old club Pompey for putting up a huge fight to avoid relegation. My Manager of the Week has to be Michael Carrick who engineered a defensive masterclass despite missing four senior centre-backs. For me it’s nailed on that Carrick should be the full-time boss at Man Utd, he’s proved himself time and again, what are they waiting for?
