Spain Football Team
After a dominant display in the Group Tables and then a resounding 4-1 victory in the Round of 16, Spain now take on a team that is arguably their biggest threat on their path to the title. Having won the Euros three times previously, but been knocked-out in the Semi Finals in their last attempt by Italy on penalties, they will be eager to prove their form once again. Despite having scored 8 goals in the Euros (9 if including the own goal scored by Italy), only one player has scored more than a single goal – Fabián – so the Spanish side will undoubtedly take confidence that so many players on their side can impact the game if required.
With their manager Luis de la Fuente, having no players suspended and a complete squad availability to choose from – including captain Jesús Navas and youngster Lamine Yamal – who at 16 is the Euro’s youngest player, expect a strong line-up as they look to progress to the Semi-Finals.
Germany Football Team
With no losses in the Group stages and a defiant 2-0 win over Denmark in the last 16 round, they will face off against one of the most dangerous teams still in the Euros on Friday, albeit some might say with the home soil advantage. Another three time Euros winner, albeit not in nearly 30 years, they will be looking to replicate their Semi-Final qualifications from 2012 and 2016 and forget their Round of 16 exit in 2020 against England. With Jamal Musiala tied as the top goalscorer of the tournament so far, and two other players just a goal behind in the form of Kai Havertz and Niclas Füllkrug, a victory could see them progress to the Semi-Finals and stand a chance at winning the Tournament’s Golden Boot.
With their manager Julian Nagelsmann having only been in charge since 2023, he will be pleased that his entire squad is available to him, with no suspensions in play, and assuredly hope that his side can continue to produce both the number of goals and the quality of defence that has seen them concede just 2 goals so far (1 of which was an own goal).
H2H Records
Having played 26 games between each other, the statistics have been incredulously even with 8 Wins, 9 Draws and 9 Losses, favouring Germany by just a single victory. Of their four meetings since 2018, 3 draws and a single Spanish win show just how tightly contested these games can be, so will Friday’s game even the tally or edge the Germany slightly further ahead in their H2H ratios.
Quarter-Final Betting
As two of the most dominant sides in modern football come together, who do the bookies think will come out on top and who do they think will have to make the short-trip home. The latest Euro 2024 betting odds, according to BetVictor at the time of writing, suggest an almost inseparable game with Spain just marginally ahead in the odds. At 31/20*, a £10 bet on the Spaniards to win would return £25.50, while the same £10 wagered on Germany, at odds of 17/10*, would pay out £27 if they were winning at the end of the 90 minutes. A draw is currently similarly priced, with £10 staked returning £32 at the current odds of 11/5*. Given that both of these sides have the tenacity to push forwards but have drawn 3 of their 4 previous games, we predict that it would take a moment of brilliance to separate these two on the night and that we could well see yet another bout of extra time, but that Spain will do enough in the game to celebrate a victory when the final whistle goes.
