Spain Football Team
The only team to take maximum points from their Group table and with 11 wins in their last 13 games, Spain are one of favourites to take home the silverware this year. Euro 2020 semi-finalists and looking to recreate their 3 trophies haul in 6 years when they won the Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 trophies back to back, a formidable start to this including wins against Croatia and Italy, then Albania, and without conceding a single goal, expect the Spanish team to go far.
Under manager Luis de la Fuente, who has amassed over a decade of leading the Spanish national side from U19 level to the main men’s team, the team has scored five goals so far, all from different scorers and have the youngest Euro player in the form of Barcelona’s own Lamine Yamal, at just 16 years of age.
Georgia Football Team
Making their first ever trip to the Euros and having already made it past the Group stages, Georgia will be looking to show the world stage what they can do and despite a first-group game loss to Turkey, subsequent draws with Czechia and a surprising 2-0 win over Portugal helped them to qualify in third place.
While coach Willy Sagnol will be doing his best to prepare Georgia ahead of a tough game, there will be comfort that their striker, Georges Mikautadze, is currently the top scorer at Euro 2024, with three goals, and should they progress further, would have an opportunity to secure that Golden Boot.
H2H Records
Having faced each other 7 times previously, and with Spain having won 6 of them, including a resounding 7-1 victory and 3-1 win in September and November last year, it is hard to see how this game might be any different, but with the Mikautadze in great form, perhaps this could be a replica of their sole 2016 victory all over again.
Round of 16 Match Predictions
As both teams prepare themselves to take on the late kick-off at 20:00 on 30th June, the latest 2024 Euro betting odds, at the time of writing and according to BetVictor, have Spain with one of the lowest odds seen, an incredible 1/6* where a £10 bet pays out just £11.67, while Georgia are extreme outsiders at 14/1* with the same £10 wager returning a huge £150 if they win after 90 minutes. The markets for a draw is currently priced at 11/2*, so £10 staked means a £65 pay out if the two teams are level at the end of the main game, which will then require extra time to be subsequently played.
While there is a vast difference in the odds between Spain and Georgia, perhaps Spain’s 2nd favourite to lift the trophy place vs Georgia’s 15th place standing shows how vastly different these two sides really are, and like the bookies say, we predict a win in normal time for the Spaniards on the night.
