The early kick-off in Group E, commencing at 2pm on the 17th June, will see Romania, returning to the Euros after an absence in 2023, face off against Ukraine, who made it through in the play-offs and will be looking to build on their Quarter Final finish at the last Euros tournament in 2000. While the ‘Tricolorii’ were undefeated in their qualifying matches, but lost their most recent friendly match in March against Colombia, the ‘Synio-Zhovti’ lost just one match against Italy, but a few draws landed them in the play-offs where they beat Bosnia and Herzegovina then Iceland, to pull through for this year’s competition. But let’s take a look at the Romania vs Ukraine betting odds to see which way the bookies are calling it.
A quick glance at the latest Euro 2024 betting odds, at BetVictor and at the time of writing, have the match closely contested, with Romania at odds of 9/4*, where a £10 bet would return £32.50, against a slightly more favoured Ukraine, whose odds of 6/5* mean a £10 wager would pay out £22. Nestled in between the two are the odds on a draw between these two sides, with the same £10 wagered returning £31.25 if correct at the end of the 90 minutes. With Romania currently 46th in the FIFA world rankings and Ukraine 22nd, and with Romania never having beaten Ukraine, expect to see a closely contested battle as they look to overturn those stats.
With Romania’s head coach, Edward Iordănescu, the country’s longest serving manager, likely to look to captain Nicolae Stanciu to motivate his team to emerge victorious on the day, Ukraine’s own coach, Serhiy Rebrov, will be hoping captain Andriy Yarmolenko will have recovered from his injury, and can drive forward Roman Yaremchuk and 3rd captain Oleksandr Zinchenko as he himself looks to overtake the legendary Andriy Shevchenko as the country’s leading goalscorer with just 3 more goals. While we predict that Romania will certainly do their best to push Ukraine back, the fire-power in the Ukrainian squad looks strong enough that they will manage to take all three points home by the time the final whistle is blown.
